Is it just me or are folks sleeping on this card? I would honestly play it over Scavenging Ooze in a lot of settings, but especially multiplayer. That seems nuts.
The card is fantastic and I agree that most Green decks can strongly consider blindly jamming them. At 3 CMC it comes down on turn 4 off of any 1 CMC ramp spell and from there it threatens to scale wildly out of control as the game progresses. Much like Anafenza, the Foremost it offers relevant disruption against each adversary and unlike most scaling threats it comes with built-in evasion. It doesn't grow as big/as fast as Managorger Hydra but the upside of hosing graveyard-based strategies is extremely relevant. It's not bullet-proof, it won't save you from Entomb -> Animate Dead sequences, but unlike Scooze it doesn't require any further mana investments and it tends to scale into a relevant beater significantly faster.
Scooze is overrated. I remember when the original went for just under $40 and people were calling it the second coming of Goyf! It's a good utility card and it shines best in that role. it's conditional in turning itself into a big beater and is usually picked off by any savvy player(s) long before that.
I like Ravenous Slime and I think Pride pretty nailed it on the head. Seems built for MP without regurgitating [card]Managorger Hydra[/card
It's not a "brew" card though. It's a "I'll always field one in my Green decks insofar as my meta has fliers" card. After all, Green has a throng of creature tutors that it can use to fetch it as needed (Summoner's Pact, GSZ, Evolution, Pod, etc.) so you only need 1 and unlike Whirlwind variants you can consistently find it as needed. It's also significantly more powerful than Tornado Elemental, it's cheaper and it's easier to cast. Card is great.
I will agree that the exile aspect of Ravenous slime is the most interesting part of the card. You can never have enough fun cards in a +1 counter deck and this one does something to differentiate itself from the effective but somewhat boring design of Taurean Mauler and Managorger Hydra.
Absolutely but with several significant upgrades..
1) It gets not one counter per activation, it gets counters equal to the power. The bigger the threat, the bigger the reward--for free.
3) It very conveniently exiles the very card that triggered it along the way--problem dealt with. For free.
2) It randomly can't be blocked by a horde of weenies. Also free.
Not saying I don't see the comparison but this guy really is light-years better than any of those.

I wouldn't say that. Turn 1 dork, turn 2 Managorger Hydra means that the table needs an answer or they lose. Straight-up. I'm not suggesting that it's difficult for someone to have a removal spell, it's not, but you do need it or you all lose. Forgotten Ancient is marginal as a standalone spell but can do bonkers things when it adds the counters to other cards. Taurean Mauler I agree is lackluster.
The point is, the one's I listed above all get counters as you play the game. They get big regardless.
If everyone decides they don't want RS to HULK SMASH, they'll simply attack you. And you have a 1/1 to defend with for 3cmc.
I agree with Morphling, Ravenous IS a good card, yes it can get stupid big fast, but it's also just a 1/1 begging the whole table to attack you.
I think of cards this way because I'm generally the threat in my group, I like buying cards and optimizing decks, so I get alpha-struck fairly routinely...
Scooze is so much better. It's a two drop that guarantees to exile the card you want. The issue with the slime is, as a creature, it competes in the super highly competitive green 3cmc slot, and if you are primarily wanting to exile cards from a graveyard just scooze it.
Sad to report I just haven't been playing much lately--new job is really kicking my ass right now. Hope others have had some luck with him; he still seems pretty righteous to me.
One of my six-month projects is to rebuild my old Golgari multiplayer deck. He's absolutely going in.
Anyone else?

Green has some sneaky good stuff this time around. I'm fine with that. Might keep prices under control. I want to brew with Whiptongue Hydra too.

Hardened scales and similar cards would pair well with it.
Ravenous Slime for me, competes against Managorger Hydra, Taurean Mauler, Forgotten Ancient etc.
I like it, but the exile part is the only reason I'm interested.
On that;
A board wipe whilst keeping this alive would be hilarious. I dig exile effects....

Fair enough, perhaps our meta's are different.

Well sure. Otherwise it's a strictly worse Managorger Hydra in practice.
