Recently I have been trying to do an Abzan token (Tendershoot Dryad) deck. I find my biggest issue is actually the expensive land base. If I bolt myself twice down to 14 on turn two, two fetches + two shocks, I find myself to be a target. And I agree, why worry about the backlash of swinging with a temur battle rage on a managorger hydra , if theyre just going to be dead.
So my question is: Is there a primer on dual/tri color decks mana-base for 4 player multiplayer (that's not commander) and if not what are your guys suggestions to having a consistent 2-3 color mana-base that dosent harm yourself too much?

I am restricted to the modern legal card-pool. (Unless it's EDH)
Fastlands work well if you need to cast things early. Exotic Orchard is probably the cheapest most effective land you will find for multiplayer. Painlands work well since you tend to just tap them for colorless later on anyway. Checklands being reprinted is helpful too, but they tend to pair best with shocks.
Keep in mind this is only necessary if you absolutely have to have the land untapped turns 1/2. Plenty of tapped lands are still playable such as bouncelands and Tri-lands. This isn't modern; unless you are facing super fast combo decks you should be okay running a few EtBT lands.
Very meta dependant.
In my meta playing ETBT lands is not a problem.
If it is in yours you should run some early defense in your 36 (nonlands) and run at least 16 lands (in your 24) that enter untapped to fuel them.
The only times I get punished in my meta is when I get too greedy and not play anything until turn five...
(Unless one of them unpacks his goblin deck, in that case I’m more on a clock.)
Good early defense should be usefull late game. Don’t just run any body.
Cards like Paragon of the Amesha might work in 5c, though that’s not ultra fast. Multicolor is stuff like Qasali Pridemage or Kiora’s Follower.
My Mother of Runes is well behated as a first turn play though...

In magic there's Harry Dresden, Fizban, Sethra Lavode, Dorotea Senjak and me...
My meta: 3 or 4 player free for all, anything goes but boring games or broken decks cause a vote to end that game.
Thanks! Knew there was a primer somewhere my search ability was just weak. And combo decks are not present in my meta, but a turn 3 Crested Sunmare is common so having mana up for a path/doom blade effect seems pretty necessary.

I'm also a big fan of Tainted Wood and Tainted Field here if the deck is black-heavy to begin with - those things are seriously good for very little cash. Canopy Vista, too, is currently worth dirt.
If you think you've got enough swamps to make the Tainted lands work, or enough basic land to make Canopy Vista work, absolutely throw them in - you won't regret it. One day, they'll print enemy versions of Canopy Vistaet al...
For triple land decks that include green, you're spoilt for choices. Sakura-Tribe Elder, Triple lands, some Evolving Wilds and whatever else will usually do the job.
I really like pain lands and check lands, but it really comes down to how much you wanna spend, given land cards will be with you for a looooong time.
