This is my current build for an Underworld Dreams deck I am contemplating purchasing next week. Thus far in testing, it's been pretty good, but I am worried about not being able to deal with non-creature permanents. If there is a way I could make the deck more viable or streamlined, please offer me your suggestions. The group I typically play with range between 3-8 players who use mostly creature based strategies with another player who uses tier one Modern decks. I should also add that as one of the few players who does not rely on creatures, i am typically an early target.
OOC are you sold on the Dreams aspect of this deck? Bluntly put it's strictly worse than building around Waste Not which is a significantly more powerful combo enabler. Turn 2 Waste Not turn 3 Dark Deal (or whatever) it a straight game win vs creature-based decks whereas your deck can actually lose to critter beats. Waste Not also means that get to play with things like Noetic Scales that crush creature decks whereas your deck has to rely on 1-shot removal.
I tried to make a Spiteful Visions / Underworld Dreams deck work for quite a while. By forcing people to draw, you're actively helping them, so it's something you need to consider...
Your card draw options are slow and too "nice".
What I found after many different versions with lots of different card choices;
In order to make it work fast enough, you'll need cards that make UD worth playing, like Windfall, Wheel and Deal, Molten Psyche, Wheel of Fate, Forced Fruition and to a lesser extent, Time Reversal & Reforge the Soul. So that once you get UD on the field, you can inflict some considerable damage playing a do-nothing perm like UD, the very next turn.
If I was going to brew up a UD deck, it's these kinds of cards I would consider first.
Some creatures that might be worth your attention are Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Seizan, Perverter of Truth & Master of the Feast just off the top of my head.
FWIW, I gave up on the idea once they printed Waste Not, then stopped playing with that card because it's disgustingly, oppressively good
Thanks for the responses guys. The interesting thing is I have a Waste Not deck that I was going to partially cannibalize to make this one and you all are right; the Waste Not deck is a killer in large games, but due to our different schedules, it is rare when we can get a game with over three people and the deck does terribly one v. one. So I never get to play it. I'm looking to modify it to compete better in smaller games and Underworld Dreams seemed like a solid choice. I'll post that deck list just in case you have suggestions for it too, though.
