Now that Dark Intimations is out, I thought I'd re-build the ole Grixis deck.
I'm not specifically looking for any type of deck at the minute, just looking for ideas.
I'm considering using some cards I've recently bought, namely Trophy Mage (with Mimic Vat etc.)
I typically play 4-8 player games, so cards that scale well are always welcome.
For 1 drops a playset of Preordains is about as good as it gets. Innocent Blood isn't bad either though.
For 2 drops it's tough to pass on things like Baleful Strix and Fellwar Stone regardless of what the rest of your deck is like. Signets are great too and even Abyssal Gatekeeper gives you an early blocker who's easy to recur with a turn 5 Intimations.
For 3 you might want Coalition Relic so that you curve out into a turn 4 Intimations. It's also a solid tutor target for Trophy Mage which isn't bad. Between Relic, Mimic Vat and Crystal Shard you should have plenty of relevant things to fetch. Even if you run 4x Mage and only have 3-4 total tutor targets for them that's perfectly fine. You can even toss something like Sword of Body and Mind if you want.
Another option at 3 CMC is Fleshbag Marauder because of how well it curves into a turn 5 Intimations. Always having an "Innocent Blood" to recur is a big game.
Interesting 4/5 drops are Archaeomancer/Mnemonic Wall because going "infinite" with Intimations is such a big game. I can't think of a better creature to recur .
At 6 you can try Capital Punishment if you want more ways to force mass discard + mass sacrifices.
In my experience Radiate is too often a dead card. Unless a deck is devoted to it.
Marchesa however was a house in practicaly any deck I threw her in.
In a 5-color build she obviously loves Gavony Township but there are of course viable alternatives in other colors and artifacts.
Just wanted to say that I've tried Living Lore and I've literally never gotten it to work. I'll take Archaeomancer any day of the week. Panoptic Mirror is stupid busted on the other hand .

Archeomancer isn't a bad idea at all now you mention it. I'm not sure about Capital Punishment, but then I've not played with that card either.

In my experience its at its best in creature-based decks. You want the fact that it's one-sided to "matter" and that basically only occurs when you have creatures yourself. A creature-light/less build may well just play Crux of Fate instead (obviously you don't count things like Fleshbag Marauder as actual creatures).
Taking into account everyone's ideas, this is the build I would currently run. Certainly not optimal and open for critique. Some choices are purely for flavor, like Ultimatum and Crosis Charm, but flexible enough. I probably also went too hravy into creature destruction, but it's a base.
Which leaves me with a serious question. Red? Really, I'm coming up with very little.
I'm liking ETB triggers, so Flameshadow Conjuring works with the likes of those above, aswell as Mulldrifter, Shriekmaw, Zealous Conscripts etc.
Hmm....
Well... you kinda HAVE to run R if you want to have a prayer of casting Dark Intimidations, so there is that...
Yeah but he could run fewer Red sources and cut the crap like Terminate and Crosis's Charm to make the early game more consistent.
That is definite. It sounded like he was thinking of just scraping red period... I misunderstood I guess.
Maybe but things like Exotic Orchard, Fellwar Stone and Trilands make splashing essentially free so it's trivial to splash for a 5 drop if you want. Heck, he could easily run Crackling Doom at 3 CMC if he wanted without making drastic changes to the manabase. I've been having fun pairing Crackling Doom with Goblin Dark-Dwellers and I recently splashed Dark Intimations at "no cost" for further abuse. All I did was change a set of Temples to Trilands and that still gave me 12 Blue sources between Exotic Orchard and 4x Fellwar Stone. The best part is when you draw a Pyromancer's Goggles and double your Crackling Dooms or Dark Intimations though. 5 mana 16-for-1 FeelsGoodMan!
Goggles? Ha ha, that's hideous!
I think I might steal that idea when I get tired of this version.
Goggles, Archaeomancer, Wall, Jeleva, DA and a suite of MP-staple spells would be FUN!
So I've decided to drop Faerie artisans - I think I'll give it (and Trophy mage) their own dedicated deck.
I think Dark Intimations works well enough with Sangromancer for a straight swap.
True that.
SoB & MM are cards I already own. You're probably right on both.
I could abuse Flameshadow a little more and use Sepulchral Primordial instead? It's dumb, but it'll fit like a glove here.
If I drop SoB & MM, +1 Flameshadow, +2 SP could work.
Don't me wrong, I really like Mizzium Mortars, I'm just worried about your ability to consistently overload it without seeing more of your manabase. The card itself is great in a vacuum though.
Yep, me too.
Seeing as this deck really benefits from creatures c/o a loop with DI & Archeomancer, keeping a bomb-creature like SP is probably the better move anyway.
I'm pretty happy with how this deck is looking right now.
Now that Dark Intimations is out, I thought I'd re-build the ole Grixis deck.
I'm not specifically looking for any type of deck at the minute, just looking for ideas.
The only cards I'm definite on are these;
4 Dark Intimations
2 Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker
1 Treachery
4 Faerie Artisans
4 Crumbling Necropolis, Temples etc.
I'm considering using some cards I've recently bought, namely Trophy Mage (with Mimic Vat etc.)
I typically play 4-8 player games, so cards that scale well are always welcome.
I'm looking for advice on some cards I don't own. What are your MP experiences with these?
Radiate
Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge
Prince of Thralls
Marchesa, the Black Rose
What other cards would you be playing in Grixis?
And if you were going to build Grixis, how would you do it?
Cheers

She's a mighty fine Sakashima the Impostor target...
My meta: 3 or 4 player free for all, anything goes but boring games or broken decks cause a vote to end that game.
I like Blatant Thievery a lot.
I second the motion for the mana rocks, Baleful Strix, and Fleshbag Marauder.
I like to have access to artifact/enchant removal, and in these colors that means things like Echoing Truth, Hurkyl's Recall, Vandalblast, etc...

This is how I played with the deck in one of the previous versions, together with stuff like Control Magic.
Oh! That's killer! Nice one

Seeing as she exiles your own deck too, I might save her for when I decide to try a grixis spells deck. But ahem, yes, I agree.
