My favorite decks to play generally are either control decks or themed decks. But people I play with a lot find it frustrating. i don’t play super broken cards or prison pieces just lots of interaction and recursion or card draw. Always budget as well. Only one I felt was generally unfun was ashen rider pox reanimator. Most decks I play against are creature based and I do Skew my deck for that but make sure I can interact with other things. We also use side boards only sometimes trying to get it to every time.
My main control decks I’ve played are Orzhov wich was just random removal and fliers. Ashen rider land destruction. BU pirates. And a blink deck which was basically the blink half of death and taxes with some things like akroma thrown in. Currently I’m working on an astral drift deck wich is proxied at the moment but did preorder astral drift so it is getting made. The pirate are considered least frustrating though there more tempo. My favorites are the blink based ones.
I played the astral drift deck today with my dad and the first game I sort of durdled and did nothing and mulled to 5 and misplayed. So didn’t really manage anything. The second game I went off and bored him because he couldn’t attack with his dinosaurs and I kept spending a bunch of time drawing and recurring at his turn. I personally enjoyed the deck a lot there were lots of desicion sand strategy I had to do to get it to do what I wanted. So want to make it work.
So like how does one make a control deck that’s fun to play against. I personally enjoy playing against control but not everyone feels the same. So how can I make it more fun because I enjoy the style.
I've got a commander deck that basically plays stax with no cost increases. People are generally more fine with control if they can resolve a spell each turn, even if you handle it.
