Hey everyone! My best friend is going to be moving a few states away next week and I want to do something nice for him. He and I have been going to FNM's every week for a few months now and it's always a great time. I want to surprise him when we go and get a Booster Box of something in standard so the two of us can draft it. We've always wanted to try drafting but we didn't want to shell out more than $5 to play magic because we're poor college kids living at home.
My question for you guys is what set in standard is the most fun to draft? (I say standard because that's all we play and I may let him keep all of the good cards) I found a lot of 2 player draft formats and they all seem pretty fun. What one do you guys think is most fun? I wish I had enough friends to do a full draft but he's the only friend I have who plays, so I have to do a 2 man draft. It would be amazing to get a box of Theros/RTR/Gatecrash each, but I've spent the last few weeks trying to cobble together enough money to afford just one box. I don't want to get a box of Born Of The Gods because we have damn near everything from it and we're sick of seeing those cards, and Dragon's Maze is Dragon's Maze
Thank you for any and all input you guys have! I have no idea what I'm talking about in terms of drafting, so thank you!
I know very little about 2 person draft, having never tried it, but I would get a box of Theros since RTR and GTC will be rotating out in a few months.
I think Winston is the best 2 person draft format. And since it is randomized from the start, you can redraft the same packs repeatedly while putting together different builds.
This means you could splurge on some pricier old packs (since you only need 6 total) and draft some Ravnica, Onslaught, Mirage, Stronghold, or whatever strikes your fancy.
