Well, he's one of the cards I include in my decks intended for practice matches, in bad cubes or against beginners. A 1/1 with first strike just isn't worth the upside imo.
I understand why they stopped including this guy (even in the form of Elvish Mystic) in core sets, as in I understand the argument. But I don't like it and I never will. My conception of what Magic and its gameplay are supposed to be was formed at a time when one-cost mana creatures were a staple, and I'm set in my ways. Besides, they have basically dozens of design principles that they shape every set around, including the "trope plus block mechanic" things and the near-functionally equivalent things that are only for limited; what's one more or less?

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not watching.
Currently reprinted in Shadows over Innistrad, I like this card. Discard it as a part of Tormenting voice and you’re ½-way to enabling Delirium for Scourge wolf.
It's a green card featuring a horse that cares about Humans. Is there perchance a MLP:FiM fan in design?

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
The 6/23/16 random card of the day is Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief. If you have any comments, combos or a decklist involving this card, feel free to share.
Good card is good.
0/10 Does not give horsemanship.
They should have just reprinted...

I know this was a boost for necro decks back in the day.
You may say it's strictly inferior to Looming Shade, but what if your opponent has a Ensnaring Bridge in play with zero cards in their hand?
