Regeneration was one of those abilities that no one ever gave a damn about. My google-fu is horrible, so i don't know what the latest printed card with Regenerate on it is beyond the Khan block. my point? this guy doesn't have the "creature can't be regenerated" tag like Terror. This guy was a good way to use Tokens before Attrition was printed.

Level 2 puts it on par with Border Patrol/Guardian Lions. at Level 3, it's stronger than Jhovall Queen/Knight of the Tusk. but you'd have to invest almost 20 mana into it... 4 mana per level, yikes.
don't know what anyone would want with a 3/10 Vigilance outside of a Dorian Seige-tower/Assault Formation build... even then, it's a too heavy an investment when there are other creatures you could get for half the cost.

Turn 1 Delraich? Yes please. I doubt this flea-ridden hag would live more than three turns; decent chump blocker at best. Since, iirc, Recruiting was instant speed, get her and throw her infront of something else.

The most underutelized of the original 3-for-1 cycle.

Also by far the weakest of the five. Giant Growth comes in fourth and already has way more utility. Now compare to the rest: Dark Ritual, Lightning Bolt and ANCESTRAL RECALL (!!!) This cycle was all over the place in terms of power.
Even on it's own, Healing Salve was always trash, but I wouldn't scold you for running one in Shandalar where life points can carry over from match to match and you start with a lot less life, making each point more valuable.
Healing Grace is pretty close to strictly better than Salve, as it is basically Healing Salve with a free entwine. Even so, it's not all that impressive.
I'd like to point out that with the rules change to damage-to-planeswalkers, Healing Salve basically got errata'd back to its original text, which is cool.
imo, by far one of the worst Phoenixes out there... The other Phoenixes have a way to either return to the battlefield or to your hand. May be nifty in a Sunburst deck, but you have better creatures to cast for [rainbow] than a 4/4 Flier.
random tangent- Jodah, Archmage Eternal is a really uninspired card. literally just a flying Fist of Suns... he was much better in the books. [on a more depressing note, Jodah himself is worth only about $1, whereas Fist is $5+]

I feel lands like these, and of course- the OG Duals, make those Fetchlands so darned prevalent in the meta

These are all around worse than Shocklands but it's nice to have more basic land type lands in commander. You're going to have to accept that this is coming in tapped a lot of the time though, so I kind of prefer the cycling duals and the tricycle lands.
I liked the "recruiter" cycle... Kavu Howler has a nice place in my kavu deck. Ringleader and Sylvan Messenger would be overpowered if cheaper- and no one cares about Merfolk or whatever that white one fetched.
>edit< Enlistment Officer fetched Soldiers. this was before Mirrodin shifted to the Race/Class system... so yea, nobody really cared about Tribal Soldier back in the day.
