Just goofing around with my buddy and I want to be able to take down his sliver deck with favorite play, Mill. Any ideas to make it better/faster? I understand its a one trick pony, but my brain is tired of trying to think up competitive standard mill for fnm haha.
I prefer to play Mill with a more control-oriented aspect rather than just play a Burn variant. As such I would add some counterspells like Daze, which works wonder with the crabs, Foil or Disrupting Shoal if you can't afford Force of Will, and few other spells that are low-mana efficient, like Unsummon or even Devastation Tide.
But to be honest, I started winning with my Mill deck when I added fetchlands. They got expensive lately but it's worth the investment if you want to win. And well, they have a very good rebuy value and will serve you in any decks of the chosen colors.
If your friend doesn't play fetchlands, you can cut 1 or 2 Archive Trap. Yes it's good with Ghost Quarters but for the sake of speed I would add Memory Sluice. And I would cut the Chancellors, to make room for more MS. -2 AT and -2 Chan. for +4 MS.
Thanks for the advice. That's why I need you guys. I only started playing at the return to ravnica block, so most of my card knowledge is limited to standard.
I could help you a bit more if you told me what happens in your games. Do you almost win but then have no hands? Gush would be the perfect card, even if it's banned in Legacy, you play casual. One big Sliver kills you? Splash white for Swords to Plowshares. Out of somewhere he throws an Emrakul in? Surgical Extraction, etc. Would you mind to give me some examples of actual plays and games you have?
I havn't tried to mill him yet. All I know is when I have played against him with other decks, he gets a massive amount of slivers out usually by turn 4-5, all of them buffing eachother, either giving him extra mana or P/T boosts. That's why I was going for more of the burn with this idea, otherwise it doesn't really stand a chance.
I can get you more info after I play him again and try the initial mill idea.
Time Ebb is a decent tempo card, but it turns into hard removal when you're playing mill. Whirlpool Whelm is an okay stall card that has the potential to function as removal when you follow it u with a mill spell after winning the clash. Oust is decent pseuso-removal in mill if you want to splash white. While you're at it, Esper Charm is a pretty fantastic card too.
