I thought it could be useful to start a thread where people name unpopular cards they like and explain why they like them, then people respond with why they aren't good or don't see much play.
Are there any cards you like that you are surprised do not see much play? Keep in mind, I am speaking in terms of casual play, not competitive play.
I will go ahead and start by naming the card Miscalculation. I understand that the gap between this card and Mana Leak is gigantic, but I have found it useful in some casual decks where the cycling ability is a big help.
I've never played against it, that I recall. There's only 4 5/5 for 5CMC fliers in Magic right now, and Cromat is the only one with the old face among them. Sure, some people might prefer the later for WUBRG, but throw in a Soulcatchers' Aerie, and Flurry of Wings and you can have a scary board position.
And Donate needs more printed versions / variations. Everyone seems to have played against someone who had it, and hated it, but not willing to build their own back-stabbing deck.
Hmm. Moonlace for me, because it can help demolish Emrakul, among other things. I also like the original Exile, and Jötun Grunt, which I've never seen played. (It may be because of the Grunt's near un-searchability. Neglect the umlaut, and he won't appear on Gatherer.) Exile is an amazing way to take down "fat creatures". The Grunt is an amazing way to take down mill and reanimation decks, plus it's 4/4 for 2 mana(!) The other cards y'all've mentioned are nice, too.
Sphinx Sovereign. I've heard more than one person flat out call this the worst mythic ever printed, a statement against which I can try to argue but ultimately have to agree with. Why do I like it? 1) It's a characteristically amazing piece of art from Chippy (I actually play with a proxy of Sphinx of the Steel Wind that has the Sovereign's art) and 2) WUB is my favorite color group. Luckily, unlike some subpar cards, the Sovereign doesn't require a whole lot of effort to work.
Not the worst card in the world, I guess; just a bit of a misfit. Five-color decks have better things to do with five colors of mana, and bird tribal decks can't justify running five colors in the first place.

Deft Duelist, I absolutely love the flavor of the card. Same with Kris Mage. The hot chicks don't hurt either

Frikkin' love it. Most of my playgroup don't, and whenever I throw one down I get hated down almost immediately. Too many players here play Combo, and me tearing up their nicely sculpted hands doesn't make too many friends.
@philip can't see how moonlace can help get rid of emrakul, not alone at least. You couldn't target emrakul with, say, a terror to get it on the stack to be moonlaced. You could redirect I suppose
Was always a big fan of Charnelhoard Wurm -- and all creatures that do stuff when dealing damage, not just combat damage (Deus of Calamity, Abyssal/Hypnotic Specter, Witherscale Wurm, etc). It's often too cute to set up, but it's fun playing a lot of the splashy BRG spells, and being able to play things like Soul's Fire and Mage Slayer to do some pretty interesting things.
Harm's Way. It's a very potent combat trick, and often makes for an easy 2 for 1.
Harm's way is one of my personal favourites for thoes under appreciated cards. I think the only reason it doesn't see more play is that white only needs so many 1 CC removal (or pseudo-removal) and harm's way just falls below the radar.
My number one card I love to play that nobody else seems to like is Disenchant. Many a time when somebody has noticed me running that the first thing always said is "you should run Oblivion Ring instead".
I gotta say I'm willing to take the trade off to have instant speed and the lower CC. Might just be because I have a love for white aggro though.
First "gold" colored card I have ever seen. Looked so cool and was very effective for the time I had seen it played. Not too good of a card, now that I've been playing for a while.
Thought he was a big Gorilla in armor, apparently a "Cat Soldier"...?
Djinn of Wishes: I love him in my scry control deck. Azorius Herald: Fits both aggro and control strategies. Feels very midrange. Herd Gnarr: Incredible in my token deck. Prismatic Lens: I own 12 of them. Fixes mana, accelerates. And in any color, not just green. Nim Deathmantle: It's just so much fun! Soul Conduit: It's a blast in multiplayer. Phyrexian Rebirth: Wipe the board and give you a fatty? Yes, please. Painful Quandary: Best finisher in a discard deck. Eternal Dominion: Turns his deck against himself! It's awesome.

YOU ARE SURPRISED BY A MANTICORE! IT QUICKLY SHREDS YOUR FLESH AND DEVOURS YOU!
Back in the days of 8th standard i had a deck that utilized them with kiki jiki and various other combos to make a large number of tokens, was one of the most fun decks ive ever made, and it was strong, won me a large number of fnm's as no one was ever expecting it.

To Rabib this is a great thread, good job!
My card that I liked and nobody else liked was Personal Incarnation has always had a soft spot for me. I love the flavour but more times than once has it bit me in the ass. I don't think it is particularly good I just like it, plus it was the first rare I opened up when I bought my first pack of revised.

I love that card. It just needs the right support.
Exactly. Most people rule it out because of that. But the way to go is building around it: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?p=5484309

EDH decks use the card a lot. The 5 CC is hard to get around in most other formats, though.

Myr Servitor: He's a good persistent blocker, solid in Glaze Fiend aggro builds, and just overall good value.
Filigree Angel: This card can change games. Combined with bounce effects, I have won many games due to the extra mileage this guy gives me.
