I didnt see a minotaur list yet for theros seems like a fairly strong tribe in good removal colors to me at least I have not done sideboard work yet as the meta is still up for grabs but here is my take on it
This deck seems very weak to Anger of the Gods which is a problem for any of the aggro based decks. It doesn't have the explosiveness necessary to overcome that weakness in my opinion. I imagine by the end of the block a deck like this would be playable, but playing a vanilla 2/3 for 3 seems really bad.
very true i wasnt really awake this morning when i thought of this and forgot all about anger of the gods oh well maybe we will see some better minotaurs and ones that can actually do this with journey and born of the gods.
Also, this isn't the biggest weakness with this deck but every time you go to build a deck in theros block you'll have to keep thoughtsieze in mind. If your deck is a bunch of average cards which get turned into awesome cards with a 3+ mana spell, then thoughtsieze is going to wreck your day.
i would consider playing some copies of Read the bones and Fanatic of Mogis, as well as a single copy of hammer of purphoros and purphoros, god of the forge.
I don't think this can be made to work with just Theros. It's hard to justify playing red without the two best red creatures in the set: Ember Swallower and Stormbreath Dragon.
Once you've included those, adding a bunch two power dorks seems subpar. Remember, 0/3 hexproof walls are everywhere in this format (and 4/5s and 5/5s hit on turn 3), so 2 power creatures are basically useless.
If you swap out the useless guys for mana accelerators, well, you're playing R/G now.
I played around with a handful of Minotaur builds and couldn't get a build that, while a concept I really want to work, just doesn't have the pieces to be competitive.
The ONLY time I've played against minotaurs in THS and thought I should revisit, and gladly didn't, was in a match against a fellow that had 3 ragebloods on board as soon as he could cast them in consecutive turns. I was in some test deck and had no answer. Outside of that perfect setup the tribe doesn't offer enough for Standard/Block Constructsd.
I haven't seen an updated list yet for this, so I thought I'd add in my own that I recently put together after Born of the Gods. The deck seems a lot more playable than before BNG, but I'd like to get some feedback on the newest list.
Ragemonger definitely gives this deck more speed, and Felhide Spiritbinder gives you a variety of options (copying Stormbreath Dragons, Polukranos, etc). I also like the addition of Fated Conflagration against Planeswalkers and other 4+ toughness creatures like the dragon that you'd find in a GR deck. This is a deck where you just want to keep throwing your creatures at your opponent no matter what. What do you guys think of the Post BNG build?

I was considering playing some block and after reading a bit, the format sounds a little stale so naturally I want to play red. After playing minotaurs in a couple limited decks, I got curious if it could be competitive in Block. Does anybody have much experience now that BNG is out? with the format dominated by Elspeth, Minotaurs seem like an excellent answer with their power only spiking when they attack and trample. The glaring problem, in my eyes, is the lack of early plays. My initial thought is fill some spots with burn and we're fine. You can also put other red aggressive creatures in like the Satyr or something. What I really want to do though is slow the deck up a bit and play Thoughtseize. Felhide Brawler might even be a necessary addition. Other early players could be Spiteful Returned, Pain Seer (only if you're really trying to win quick), Akroan Crusader if we warp the deck a bit, Baleful Eidolon who has a nifty interaction when he's bestowed on a trampler (all damage but 1 tramples from a deathtouch creature). And on the flip side of it all, I think Underworld Cerberus seems like an awesome addition right now to combat Reanimator and Monsters. Elspeth answers him but only with the -3, but you draw all your guys back :).
I will try to toy around with this some if I get a chance but I'd be interested to hear what other people have been doing if any. I will also try to jam some Springleaf Drum in here somewhere since I really adore that card right now.
With mana confluence coming out in the new set, this tribe will definitely get help. I would advise to pick one main colour then splash the other for a few tweaks. Being able to trample over elspeths tokens isn't very relevant because they will generally have already killed all your creatures. The real main concern is with courser of kruphix. The green decks all run this as a 4 of blocker that will need to be dealt with if you want to win. Check here: http://www.mtggoldfish.com/metagame/block for a good view of the format.
Agent of Erebos is the card you want to beat Reanimator, with Gnarled Scarhide also targeting it. Underworld Cerebrus might work but it costs more and you have to somehow make it die while they might just reanimate something on turn 4-5 before that happens.
Using Thoughtseize + Brain Maggot to take out Rescue from the Underworld and Whip of Erebos from their hand helps immensely. Yeah, they can just Hero's Downfall the maggot or Commune into another Whip, but that all takes considerable mana and tempo while your moo cows are smashing face.
