I opted not to follow up on my Temur post in deck creation, but simply post a list from a recent daily event. I like the Hooded Hydra tech in his board, Ashcloud Phoenix is really good in a format with few flyers.

This deck is really strong vs the Mardu and Jeskai decks which have a hard time dealing with so much fat.

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
Nature Calls is a Temur Aggro deck built against the current Top 3 of the block Meta, Abzan, Mardu and Jeskai. There's some serious potential in these colors with the fattest and most resilient creatures, access to burn, draw power and a little control. It's meant to run similar to a tempo deck. Below I will provide our V1 decklist and reasoning' for card choices in both the mainboard and the sideboard as well as an analysis of the deck itself.
Rattleclaw Mystic - Provides Ramp and Mana Fixing. Enables a T3 Pheonix or Hasted Savage Knuckleblade Heir of the Wilds - One of the best 2-drops in the format. It's deathtouch ability makes the opponent think twice before attacking. In a pinch, can be paired with a 'fighting' card to be used as targeted removal. Savage Knuckleblade - The best 3-drop in it's colors. Aggressive, versatile and triggers Ferocious. Ashcloud Phoenix - A recurring 4-power flier that also triggers Ferocious. Sagu Mauler - A powerful creature that can't be targeted by your opponent. Triggers Ferocious.
Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker - Part-time beater, part-time burn. Pulling double duty! Crater's Claws - At it's worst, it's a Shock and at it's best it's a game ender. Savage Punch - Fight mechanic used as removal. If used before combat it will pump for a couple extra points of damage. Temur Charm - Mainly use the first two choices here. Counter troublesome spells or another fight mechanic as removal. Arc Lightning - Burn that can knock out multiple targets. Treasure Cruise - Draw power to keep the threats rolling. Dig Through Time is probably better here..
Sideboard choices
Arc Lightning - A fourth copy used for the Mardu and Jeskai match-up to keep their creatures in check. Disdainful Stroke - A counter suite used in addition with the charm for the Abzan match-up so they don't pick up steam. Icy Blast - Stall move used against creature heavy decks like Mardu. Will keep them tapped more often than not for two turns allowing you to push in for the final few damage. Naturalize - Removal used against Jeskai to cut their tempo engine. Singing Bell Strike - Pseudo-removal against the Mirror or other beefy decks. Sagu Mauler - A fourth copy for the Abzan match-up. One of the strongest creatures against them.
In the Pre-sideboard Main deck we have:
19 Removal Options with: Heir of the Wild, Sarkhan, Savage Punch, Temur Charm, Craters' Claws and Arc Lightning. This amount of removal should fair well against the creature-heavy block format.
Within those removal choices we have 4 counterspells in the form of the Charm. 6 Pump spells with Savage Punch and Temur Charm and 7 burn options with Craters' Claws and Arc Lightning.
Obviously, this is a very versatile deck that can play many different roles.
Abzan Midrange - A removal-heavy deck meant to stallout the opponents board and start dropping bombs. Arc Lightning and Savage Punch aren't as effective in this match so I would suggest:
-2 Savage Punch
-3 Arc Lightning
+4 Disdainful Stroke
+1 Sagu Mauler
This board should also work for Esper Control decks.
Singing Bell Strike could be beneficial in this match-up but that's more of a personal call. I can see dropping in at least 2 by removing 1 Craters' Claws and 1 Treasure Cruise. Mardu Aggro - A quick deck designed to overwhelm the opponent with creatures. Plays similar to Sligh decks. The idea here is to keep them off their aggro game plan. Savage Punch is good in this match-up but, we have more effective choices in the board. I would suggest:
-2 Craters' Claws
-2 Savage Punch
+1 Arc Lightning
+3 Icy Blast
This board should also work for B/W Warrior decks. Jeskai Tempo - An aggro deck that plays similar to a combo build. Runs few creatures. The idea is to interrupt their game plan by killing off their creatures and not leaving their Ascendency on the board. I would suggest:
-2 Savage Punch
-1 Craters' Claws
+2 Naturalize
+1 Arc Lightning Temur Mirror - A deck designed to drop bigger creatures than it's opponent. Singing Bell Strike will really pull it's weight in this match-up so i'd suggest:
-2 Savage Punch
-3 Arc Lightning
-1 Craters' Claws
+4 Singing Bell Strike
+2 Icy Blast
So, there we have it. We who play this deck have faith in it's viability and we're looking for playtesters and critique. Let's make some Magic!
(This was copy and pasted for my original WoTC forum post so I hope the quick-links are the same.)
Here's the testing results I've done on MtGO. As you can see, It has the makings of a competitive deck that isn't a strong underdog in any match-up so far. I'm always looking for new testers and players so hit me up on MtGO(modo) Enigma_B_
Testing Against Abzan
Match 1 vs Stock Abzan Midrange 2-1
G1 - Overran Abzan's game by burning out their early plays and keping them on the back foot until we could overrun their board position and go in for the win.
G2 - Unable to grab any Green mana and therefor didnt put up any fight.
G3 - Was an attrition match but was eventually able to Overrun their board position with Singing Bell Strike and their own top deck.
Match 2 vs Abzan splash Red 2-1
G1 - Abzan Curves out perfectly and keeps the board clear as they drop threat after threat.
G2 - Because of the abundance of EBT lands in Abzan they were practicly kept on their back foot the whole game. Heir of the Wilds, counterspells and Craters' Claws took us to the win.
G3 - Pretty much a replay of G2..
The strong cards in this match-up are: Heir of the Wilds, Craters' Claws, Sagu Mauler, Singing Bell Strike, Counterspells and Ashcloud Pheonix.
Testing Against Mardu
Match 1 vs Mardu Warrior Aggro 2-0
G1 - Started out prety great for us. Two Rattleclaws', a Hair of the Wild, Sarkhan and a spread of lands. My early creatures stoped him from attacking with his worrior lords. I drop Sarkhan T4 and hit 4 to the face. T5 Drop a Phoenix and activate Sarkhan. He casts crackling doom and I sacrifice phoenix. Swing for another four. He drops Ankle Shaker and swings out at Sarkhan. Sarkhan dies. I flip Phoenix and swing all out on him the folowing turn and knock him to 2(8 damage). He casts Sorin and Lifelinked his way to 14. Following turn I swing out and finish him with a Craters' Claws.
I switched up the SB plan because I wanted to keep Claws at least with 3 copies so I -2 Savage Punch -3 Treasure Cruise -1 Craters' Claws +1 Arc Lightning +3 Icy Blast +2 Singing Bell Strike(for Ankle Shanker or Butcher of the Horde)
G2 - I had to mulligan at the start but ended up with a Rattleclaw, 2 Craters' Claws, Temur Charm and 2 lands. On the draw I pulled Sarkhan. He starts aggressive with Bloodsoaked Champ and the Chief of th Edge. I trade my Mystic for his Lord and burn his champ. Hold back my mana on my next turn. He casts Butcher which I countered. I start bringing in the beats with a Heir of the Wild and another mystic. Burn out his next creature drop. Attack into him until I bait out Crackling Doom then I drop the Sarkhan. He drops Butcher. I attack with Sarkhan which he doesn't block and takes him to 6. Follow up with a Craters' Claws to the Face for the win.
The strong cards in this match-up are: Heir of the Wilds, Craters' Claws, Ashcloud Pheonix and Sarkhan. Arc Lightning would also have been relevent but didn't pull any. (Lesson - Sometimes it's good to keep your mana open for a charm counter when you suspect an opponents bomb if you already have some board position.)
I don't know how to sideboard that deck.. Generally, you would take out the subpar cards for a match-up and replace them with what does better. For those interested, I have made a couple changes to Nature Calls, it is now v1.5. Along with that, I have made some slight adjustments with the sideboard plan; I've done more testing and went 3-1 in another Daily Event on Christmas Day. My new match record with the deck is 16 wins and 5 losses. I will put all relevant information in it's own spoiler block so you can click to open and collapse.
Abzan Midrange - A removal-heavy deck meant to stallout the opponents board and start dropping bombs. Arc Lightning and Savage Punch aren't as effective in this match so I would suggest:
-2 Savage Punch
-3 Arc Lightning
-1(or all 3) Treasure Cruise/Surrak Dragonclaw
-1 Craters' Claws
+4 Disdainful Stroke
+1 Sagu Mauler
+2(or all 4) Singing Bell Strike
This board should also work for Control decks.
Mardu Aggro - A quick deck designed to overwhelm the opponent with creatures. Plays similar to Sligh decks. The idea here is to keep them off their aggro game plan. Savage Punch is good in this match-up but, we have more effective choices in the board. I would suggest:
-2 Savage Punch
-2 Treasure Cruise
+1 Arc Lightning
+3 Icy Blast
This board should also work for B/W Warrior decks.
Jeskai Tempo - An aggro deck that plays similar to a combo build. Runs few creatures. The idea is to interrupt their game plan by killing off their creatures and not leaving their Ascendency on the board. I would suggest:
-2 Treasure Cruise
-1 Craters' Claws
+2 Naturalize
+1 Arc Lightning
Temur Mirror - A deck designed to drop bigger creatures than it's opponent. Singing Bell Strike will really pull it's weight in this match-up so I'd suggest:
-2 Savage Punch
-3 Arc Lightning
-1 Craters' Claws
+4 Singing Bell Strike
+2 Icy Blast

vs Stock Abzan Midrange 2-0
vs Stock Abzan Midrange 0-2(Event Match) - Iffy hand, bad draws and some not so smart plays.
vs Stock Abzan Midrange 2-0(Event Match)
Tips playing against Abzan; They run less creatures than you, still, you have to be smart with your removal. Don't be afraid to take a few hits of damage. Your recurring creatures like Phoenix and self protecting creatures like Knuckleblade and Mauler will be your main threats and counterspells to stop their Roc's, Rhino's, Sorin and Kill spells.
vs Mardu Warrior Aggro 2-0
vs BW Warriors Aggro 2-0
vs Mardu Warrior Aggro 2-1(Event Match).
vs Mardu Control 2-1(Event Match)
vs Mardu Control 1-2 - Mana screwed both times. :/
Tips playing against Mardu; Your creatures are bigger than theirs. Save your removal for the one's you cant block away. Fight mechanic is good here as are your recurring Phoenix's. Keep the pressure on.
vs Jeskai Tempo 2-0(Event Match)
vs Jeskai Tempo 2-1(Event Match)
vs Jeskai Tempo 2-1
vs Jeskai Tempo 1-2 - Just couldn't draw well enoughto inturrupt their tempo engine.
vs Jeskai Tempo 2-0(Event Match)
Tips playing against Jeskai; They run far less creatures than you. Don't be afraid to trade, you'll draw more. Your first priorty should be to get rid of all creatures you see. Example: T3 I had a Rattleclaw Mystic on the field and a land of each type. In my hand I had Sarkhan, Phoenix, Temur Charm and a land or two. My opponent had that Jeskai Elder. Instead of casting the phoenix and getting an intimidating board position, I cast Temur Charm so our creatures would fight, killing his. The following turn I killed off his next creature with Arc Lightning instead of casting Sarkhan or Phoenix. Then, I cast Phoenix. If he had cast a creature, i'd of cast Sarkhan and burned his creature.
vs Temur Midrange 2-1(Event Match)
Tips playing against Temur: Play smart, don't overextend into a counter. Fight mechanic works geat here as do the sideboarded cards. All pull their weight.
vs Mono-White Mill Weenie 2-0
vs 4-Color Control 0-2 - Mana Flooded both times. :/
I think the serious decline in MTGO players has hurt one of the best formats for newbies. I see a lot of Temur in tournament practice. I think most of the grinders are on the Abzan plan though.

I'm not a newbie, at least not to magic; just MTGO. Abzan is alright. My Temur has just as good of a match-up against the rest of the field as Abzan does while also having a better match against Abzan than it does against it's own mirror. This deck isn't even set in stone yet. It's still growing and evolving. That alone should be enough reason to give it a shot. With my matches, about 34 total, I have a 68% chance to win any givin match. The losses, more often than not, are due to mana issues, either flooding or scarcity. With the next set we get the 4/2 hasting War Shaman that draws cards to switch Treasure Cruise with making the deck much more aggressive.
You started this thread. That leads me to assume that you play Temur. Or have you dropped in favor of Abzan?

SIDEBOARD

4 Disdainful Stroke
3 Icy Blast
2 Naturalize
4 Singing Bell Strike
1 Sagu Mauler
Main Deck Choices
Rattleclaw Mystic - Provides Ramp and Mana Fixing. Enables a T3 Pheonix or Hasted Savage Knuckleblade
Heir of the Wilds - One of the best 2-drops in the format.
+1 Arc Lightning
Temur Mirror - A deck designed to drop bigger creatures than it's opponent. Singing Bell Strike will really pull it's weight in this match-up so i'd suggest:
-2 Savage Punch
-3 Arc Lightning
-1 Craters' Claws
+4 Singing Bell Strike
+2 Icy Blast
So, there we have it. We who play this deck have faith in it's viability and we're looking for playtesters and critique. Let's make some Magic!
