My friends and I ordered a set of the 2018 precons, then drew straws and I'll get the lands-deck (with Lord Windgrace as commander).
This is the precon's decklist:
I was a little dissappointed when the decklist came out, as my hopes for neat lands and dito interactions did not really materialize.
But now there is more room for me to upgrade the deck.
I went through my binders and took quite some (44) cards that might fit.
This is the list:
As these cards are quite nice, I am rather happy with the potential to upgrade the deck with cards that I already have.
It is however, also very clear that I have few 'bombs' in Jund-colours. So these I'll have to acquire.
In the end, I plan on doing these changes:
For the creatures:
In the end, I'm looking for feedback on the planned changes. I would like to make the precon stronger, and the keep the focus on lands, landfall and big mana.
Comments are strongly appreciated.
If you suggest adding cards, please also suggest which cards to cut.
-Should I add more land, preferably with utility? If so, what should I take out?
-What about the cards that I have, but don't plan to put in? Some of these cards look really strong, but I don't know what to take out:
Thanks for your feedback!
The meta is 1v1 commander or 2HG. The decks I play against are not 'competitive', but some pack decent amounts of power or descent from strong commanders.
This is what the deck would look like, with the planned changes:
I'm planning on building Windgrace too but not finished the deck yet.
I'd want more utility lands than you currently have. Things like Mortuary Mire are good as they keep your budget down and you can get their effect at random points in the game thanks to Crop Rotation. Cards with enter the battlefield abilities are also abusable with Dust Bowl and Windgrace's middle ability.
If you've got a bigger budget then you could include things like Volrath's Stronghold as the recursion piece in the deck.
I build to win, so a lot of my suggestions may not be relevant, like Obliterate. I'll post my list anyway though.
Still, there's some cute stuff I found while Brainstorming!
Orcish Lumberjack is insane. T1 Lumberjack fetchland -> T2 Windgrace, 3 lands, and 2 mana still available Squandered Resources and Lotus Cobra can be good ramp too Titania, Protector of Argoth as another Omnath effect
Consider keeping in Reality Scramble, it's kind of fun. You can use it to tutor Planeswalkers onto the field by placing Windgrace back into the Command Zone, and you can keep using minus abilities by rotating them out.
As for cuts, Sylvan Advocate is weak, if you want an effect like this try Kamahl, Fist of Krosa. He's also great wrath protection (if they wrath, turn their lands into creatures)!
Sub Courser of Kruphix for Oracle of Mul Daya Turntimber Sower is bad, Thantis, the Warweaver seems pretty bad, Flameblast Dragon might be okay? I wouldn't run them, your mileage may vary. Edge of Autumn has much better alternatives, Arbor Elf, Bloom Tender, etc.
Replace Time of Need with Demonic, Vampiric, and/or Worldly tutors Ruinous Path is bad, especially at Sorcery speed, put in your Beast Within
Also, Decimate sometimes can't be used, like if no one has an Enchantment on the board you're not allowed to cast it. Really clunky Constant Mists... do you really need this? Seems like your win-con is out-creaturing the other players, this is one less slot for you to succeed at that Burgeoning, Retreat to Hagra, Abundance... not good here. Burgeoning is good but not in this deck, Retreat does nothing, and no need to spend 4 mana for Abundance to filter your draws, Windgrace already does this. Sensei's Divining Top does it better as well.
I’m doing a similar type of thing with my group. Here are a few things I’m doing:
- Both Courser of Kruphix and Oracle of Mul Daya are worth running.
- You got Omnath and Gitrog, now you just need Titania to complete the trifecta.
- If you want more landfalls, you might try Zendikar’s Roil and Splendid Reclamation.
- Otherwise I agree with the rest of the cuts.
