MTG Salvation

For some time I've been running a 5-color good-stuff deck, rotating out and trying various commanders. I've been very fond of Karona, False God, whom I may return to, but recently I've been enjoying the political trickery that O-Kagachi, Vengeful Kami brings to the table.

The deck was originally an annoying control deck using (at first) Omniscience/Enter the Infinite/Beacon of Tomorrows as the win-con. I eventually made it more casual, running Decree of Silence + Solemnity as the inevitable win-con, along with Finest Hour + Karona to swing for lethal 23 commander damage (ran all 5x scourge 'decree's for Karona flavor).

Currently there are no "i-win" combos in the deck. It is more of a rampy grindy deck, with a small selection of instant speed tricks.



IMO, O-Kagachi, Vengeful Kami isn't too impressive on it's own. Had it just had haste or flash printed on it then the dragon would be far better. My favorite cards in the deck are savage summoning and scout's warning, as my playgroup is familiar with me using these tricks to flash out O-Kagachi at EOT. The threat of that possible flash trick makes opponents hesitant to attack me in multiplayer games, which has proven to be a very nice effect.

I'm also running archangel avacyn and stunt double for more flash trickery, and am looking to pick up another venser, shaper savant for this deck.

A recent theme/restriction I've been forcing on my decks (except for my mono-red decks), is limiting myself to one planeswalker per deck. I've chosen Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver for this deck, as she fits the gameplay of board-control + creature value.

The deck's manabase has changed a bit over the past few months. I used to run the 5x tap-snow-lands (example frost marsh), along with the 15x basic snow lands, simply because the deck has into the north. I've since removed the 5x tap lands.


I've been enjoying O-Kagachi for a while now, and would love to hear some feedback. I've built the deck to not focus on the vengeance ability, as a 6-cmc dragon is a bit hard to support in my current group. Otherwise I would plug in more thematic stuff (other dragon spirits) and double-strike tricks.

You have quite a bit of ramp, and a nice late-game package of cards, but I’d be concerned how you fare in the mid-game against any type of aggressive decks. Have you maybe considered something like Gonti, Lord of Luxury which should help protect you in the early/mid game and also potentially steal a haymaker?
