This deck is inspired in part by the old Slobad primer (Thank you Trees) with some significant differences.
May this deck successfully carry on that legacy.
For a description of my version of this deck I present the following: Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer
Many people look at Slobad and ask, "What does he really do?"
And that is a fair question. He seems quite unassuming- he just protects your best artifacts at the cost of your worst artifacts.
He does that. And only that. But what most people miss is how powerful that can be, mostly because people aren't really considering the following:
Slobad plus the two Red wraths accomplish the following:
Leave your opponents with very little while you have half your artifacts alive! This is almost the explicit goal of the deck, make things indestructible and then watch as your opponents are left with nothing.
The supporting crew aids greatly in accomplishing this:
* Notice that absolutely no planeswalkers get hit by most (All is Dust being the exception) of these spells, so feel free to deploy them before you go kaboom! Many times a hardcast Decree of Annihilation or Obliterate with a walker or two on board is often game-winning.
Once you've incinerated everything in your path, how do you win the game?
That, is an easy answer my friend.
Along with a "few" combos: +
OR
OR =
You having permanents in play while your opponents have exactly 0 permanents.
+ =
Infinite mana.
+ =
Also infinite mana.
+
(any artifact that taps for {2} or more will work) + =
Is infinite mana/draw/life/etc.
Alright, infinite mana is nice. How do you kill your opponent?
The answer is actually a little complicated this time.
The first thing you want to do is to get Staff of Domination or any method of draw online once you have infinite mana. Draw your ENTIRE deck. Once you do, you want to play Myr Welder and Ugin's Nexus and then pass the turn after sacrificing Ugin's Nexus. In your cleanup step, discard Blightsteel Colossus (or any of the Eldrazi that shuffle graveyards in to your library will work) so that you don't get milled out. Then take your extra turn from the Ugin's Nexus. Next, play Staff of Nin and Staff of Domination (if it already wasn't in play/your graveyard) and sacrifice them to Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer (Or any sacrifice outlet, you have inifinite mana still I'm assuming, get creative!). Once you do, imprint Staff of Domination onto Myr Welder and then use Welder's newfound powers to untap it. Promptly imprint a Mana Rock. The way this works is that Staff of Domination imprinted on Welder can untap Welder for just 1. You can then untap Welder to imprint another artifact! Do so, imprinting a mana rock. Using a mana rock that taps for 2 or more, Welder taps for 2 or more and untaps for 1. Make infinite mana. Now, play Staff of Nin and immediately sacrifice it to Welder. Welder now also has the {t} deal 1 damage from the Staff of Nin it imprinted. Use that ping ability to ping your opponents to death!
Additionally, Planar Portal (and in the future Planar Bridge as the most likely replacement) is essentially a one-card combo. What you do is first play it. The next turn, activate it and grab Unwinding Clock which allows you to tutor on everyone else's turn given the proper mana rocks. Tutor for any wincon appropriate (sometimes it might be Obliterate, sometimes it might be Welder combo, sometimes it might be Monolith/Rings combo).
Here is the 99 in a completely unedited order that I will have to go back and edit in the near future:
Until next time, may you make many, many, funeral pyres out of your opponent's boards and of Tolaria.
