This deck has been reworked from Duel Commander for regular 1v1. I don't own a Mana Vault, so that's why it and a couple other mana rocks are not included in the decklist.
Round 1: vs Mizzix of the Izmagnus
2-0
Seems like this guy just played his FFA deck without modding it much. Not much to report, just countering Mizzix and keeping him on the back foot both games.
Round 2: vs Animar, Soul of Elements
2-0
This is a deck I constructed and loaned out, but I haven't even playtested against it so I was a little nervous. Luckily it seems like a pretty good matchup for me, all I have to do is keep Animar off the table with counters and bounces and I'm good.
Round 3: Nylea, God of the Hunt
2-1
Surprisingly, this was the toughest matchup for me and the only time I lost a game all night. I got too cocky first game and tapped out to cast my Extraplanar Lens without a Force of Will in hand. He destroyed it with an Acidic Slime on his turn. After that I was struggling just to get back in the game with one land down. I was actually hanging in there surprisingly well considering, but it felt like I was falling farther and farther behind each turn. On top of this his deck was drawing a ton of cards and he was playing fairly slowly. With a 40HP metagame and 55 minutes per round I decided not to risk going to turns and scooped, turns out that was the right decision. The next two games I was more cautious and made sure to keep counters up, which swung the games my way fairly dramatically. They weren't easy wins, but they weren't super close. I closed the games out authoritatively with an infinite mill game 2 and reweaving into Ugin, the Spirit Dragon on my 6th turn game 3.
Round 4: Child of Alara
2-0
Once again, a deck that wasn't really optimized for 1v1, the deck owner admitted as such. He spent a lot of time trying to ramp to big spells like Cruel Ultimatum that he was never able to cast because I slowed him down too much with land bounces and extra turns. Went infinite both times, first time with a mill and second time capsizing all his permanents.
1st place. My only concern is that this deck is so oppressive that people might not show up to the tournament next week because they're on tilt. This deck is straight up crushing my local metagame.
