Obviously this is a tribal build, but it seems to work pretty well regardless of any insistence on sticking to theme. To be honest, this is really thanks to Wizards, not myself. Zombies have had a pretty decent boost in tribal accessories through the Innistrad and Shadows over Innistrad blocks. I am missing a few crucial ingredients, but for the most part this deck works quite well.
The engine for this deck is obviously being able to dump your best zombie cards in order to recast them with G&G, so that has affected some of the choices I've made for draw, ETB & LTB triggers and so forth.
Wants/Maybe's - Liliana, the Last Hope, Death Baron, Undead Warchief, Corpse Harvester - yeah there are a few utility zombies left out. I pulled the Last Hope lilly with eldritch moon and ended up giving it to my wife, which I may yet live to regret. Not the biggest loss as far as this deck goes, I'd be surprised to see an opponent let me get as far as her emblem.
Living death was in here. This deck sort of mutated from a Grimgrin, Corpse-Born build I had. When Gisa & Geralf was spoiled I changed. The initial deck just played a little too close area that Thraximundar has well covered. Anyway, I wasn't sure if there was any genuine benefit to having Living Death in here in this deck's current form. If I can track down some Vengeful Dead and other ETB/LTB zombie triggers, sure. Until then, it's really just recursion for me, creature swapping for my opponents. Plus, all of my copies are in use.
Frantic search I am digging for a couple copies of. It would fit well here and would get a place when I track it down. Read the Runes is solid too, and with C16 is pretty gettable. I may have to find it.
Relentless Dead I am waiting to rotate out of standard. At present it's pretty overpriced and short of opening a bomb foil I can trade for to pick one up, I'm not paying ~$12 for it. Granted it is good, just not a 'must have now' card.
I get how good Cyclonic Rift is, and if I had a spare copy, it might get a look in. It would definitely win games, but is it a little win-more in zombie tribal? The idea is to swarm and make your opponent suffer each time you turn sideways. I feel like it would be taking a slot that might be better used elsewhere. And there's plenty of other evasion available to zombie tribal too - Zombie Master, Zombie Trailblazer (both of which are in here), and I have thought of running Wonder too. It's permanent evasion, and it'll get in my GY no sweat.
Phyrexian arena I am seriously thinking about. I'm pretty tapped (haha pun) out for cash atm, but if I can scratch together a few dollars I will probably pick up another copy.
Thanks for the recommendations man. This has definitely become a solid favourite deck of mine, and I appreciate the help making zombies great again.
For sure! Good news on a few of these is that they're cheap. Relentless Dead is 1/2 the price you're thinking ($6.70 tcg mid last time I checked), and Phyrexian Arena, with all its recent printings, is down below $4.
My reasoning for Cyclonic Rift is its versatility. Blue/Black does not have good answers to resolved artifacts or enchantments, and there are plenty of examples of thosecardtypes that MUST be answered by a deck that relies upon the combat step to win.
I am still going to wait for Relentless Dead; my LGS doesn't have a copy anyway. And yeah Phyrexian Arena...the amount of copies I need vs the amount I want to buy is severely out of proportion. Such a good card.
I must admit, I'm still tossing up whether Living Death is a super solid card in this deck at present. I have a few copies, but they are probably better where they are for now. I'd almost be just as happy with Rise of the Dark Realms or Living End
The great thing about Living Death in your deck is that the deck is already designed to have a lot of dudes in the yard. Therefore, as long as your deck is doing what it's designed to do (spit dudes into the yard, cast the ones you like, repeat), you should benefit the most. It also helps you rebuild after a board wipe and will straight up win games when you have a Gray Merchant of Asphodel in the yard.

Hey! A couple more cards that you might consider to combat problematic enchantments and artifacts: Nevinyrall's Disk and Oblivion Stone. The great thing about zombies is that they can rebuild much faster than most other decks. I've been very happy with O-stone, and if I have considered adding the Disk to my list.
Silumgar's Command, pretty cool, let me know how it works for you! I seem to forget about this command, since I only see Kolaghan's and Dromoka's with any regularity.
Thanks for those! The Oblivion Stone is probably a little outside what I can afford, but I've considered the Disk, with it's recent reprint I can definitely find it a place here. I'd probably pull Rise from the Tides for it. The tides does ok, but it's better in a spellslinger deck like my Dralnu build.
Silumgar's Command does pretty well. I've used it in other builds before and the modes are helpful in most cases. Getting two at once is good - You dont see a lot of PW's but it's a handy tack on. But a bounce and a utility creature or gamewinningspell gone is good value.
Out:
2 Islands
1 Swamp Liliana Vess - This deck isn't the right place for her. No one in their right mind will let me get her ult off, and I wasn't using the tutor ability. Gavony Unhallowed - Sure it gets big, what else? Necromantic Selection - It was a flavour piece that didn't quite fit here.
Will hopefully be updating after Amonkhet releases, there are some potential additions in the set. Also still tracking down Undead Warchief, Vengeful Dead and some of the other staple tribal pieces.
You have a few I would have recommended on your wants list so I won't touch on them here but, for me, there's some holes in your line-up that should be easy to fill, some others a little less so but are still great Zombies or good additions to this kind of deck.
Someone wants to Hallowed Burial your board? Exile all creatures? Insurrection? Control Magic? When you have enough sacrifice outlets in your deck to always have one on board, none of these will happen. You get to control the "dies" triggers and everything is there for you to bring back again with G&G.
You mentionned you're looking for Lord effects and you didn't mention these: Metallic Mimic & Adaptive Automaton just for the power boost. Ok, you can't G&G them back (because they are not Zombies in your graveyard) but they fill the holes of not having Undead Warchief & Death Baron. When you have those cards, you can switch them into a different tribal deck. Risen Executioner Forget his self-animation, it almost never happens, he's a blunt instrument that boosts your army. IF you can get one cheap, that's cool. Not a "must have" but a flavourful placeholder. I still run one in my G&G own deck.
Mikaeus the Unhallowed Unlike the first 3, he's very expensive (cash wise) but if you can trade for one he will never leave this deck. Boosts everyone and gives you access to free recursion and occasional shennanigans. Not BFFs with Metallic Mimic but you can generally work around that. If you have both and it's a choice, Dark Mike is that choice. He's flavorful and he's a great card with a side option of amazing. If you can afford him.
I totally love these: Grotesque Hybrid Basilisk, Protection Green & White, Flying & discard outlet. A pet card but never a dead card. People get caught up on the 3/3 for 5 but the abilities are always relevant. Costs nothing, just a little harder to find because he was released so long ago. Noxious Ghoul I get that it will kill your Realmwright & occasionally your general. I think that's a small price for the best board control creature in your tribe, bar none. Always surprised when players don't run this. Sure, you may not have one, which is fine, but it should be on your shopping list if you don't (at the top of the list). About the only time it's not totally amazing is in a meta filled with other zombie decks (You mentionned your wife having Liliana TLH, if she hits the Emblem regularly, that would be one of the times he doesn't shine! ). The rest of the time it shines. Again, a little harder to find because of when it was printed initially but I think it got reprinted in Planechase so there should be copies out there.
Lots of other cards you may not have access to because of availability or cost but you have to have this: Buried Alive I run Corpse Connoisseur, this and Entomb as well as Mesmeric Orb. Anything to get zombies into the yard quickly.
How married are you to everything having to be a Zombie? (Essentially everything except G&G and that curious Realmwright is a zombie). If you're open to ideas and can't find everything on your wish-list, I'd add two from my deck (well, one from my deck and the other from every reanimator deck I've played since Theros)
River Kelpie Play a card with G&G, draw a card with the Kelpie. Mogis’s Marauder One of the big drawbacks with reanimator strategies is that you generally don't have haste to attack straight away. He gives you that. You can also play a big reanimation spell but not be able to get through defenses. He helps you with that too. G&G gives you something nice from the graveyard? Great, drop the Marauder from your hand right after and you can attack with everything right away.
That's my quick take. Only Mikaeus is really expensive, the Altar can be replaced by another cheaper version. The rest you should be able to pick up from bulk binders for next to nothing.
Ok, so lots of responses, but before all of that some changes:
Played 1v1 against Roon yesterday and got pretty well locked out by Venser, Shaper Savant. I had nothing at instant speed to deal with the bastard. Between that and Roon of the hidden Realm blinking G&G I was slowly being milled out of the game. I need some more answers here. I remember a few posts ago mentioning that I didn't need Cyclonic Rift. Yeah, well this is what humble pie looks like.
Also, it'd be really nice to be able to be more selective about what hits the graveyard - dropped a lot of lands (which I'm mostly ok with as I'm not paying for Crucible of Worlds), but also dropped some fairly crucial enchantments like Endless Ranks of the Dead and Dream Halls. Had a rejig afterwards:
The first 4 cards I put into a Zombie deck:
Carrion Feeder
Nantuko Husk
Phyrexian Ghoul
Phyrexian Altar (or Ashnod's or Altar of Dementia if you don't have a Phy.Altar)
Don't have spare altars, but I do have a Carrion Feeder. Cheap to cast and free to sac is a no brainer.
He is amazing, but the only copy I'm prepared to spring for is in Ghave, Guru of Spores. He's too good there to move and I can't afford another.
Grotesque Hybrid Basilisk, Protection Green & White, Flying & discard outlet. A pet card but never a dead card. People get caught up on the 3/3 for 5 but the abilities are always relevant. Costs nothing, just a little harder to find because he was released so long ago.

I like the hybrid, that's a great card. Noxious Ghoul I fully intend to grab when I can, it's one of those cards thats only been released a couple times so it's harder to track down, short of buying the tribal zombie planechase pack. And I can't afford that. Realmwright is really only placekeeping until I can track down an Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth.
I was thinking the same thing about reanimation. This is a definite case of RTFC, I'd not realised it gives haste. Great tech, and I'm not foolish enough to stick to tribal ahead of furthering the deck.
Speaking of best zombies, I'm very surprised there's been no mention of Lord of the Undead.
It's a cost thing. With G&G being able to resurrect zombies admittedly this guy is low on the list and he does cost a little. Truth be told, I'm not sure I want him in here, but if I can find him cheap I might consider picking him up.
I haven't drawn it in the three games I played since adding it. But I was whiffing a lot. It's also why I added ashes of the fallen so I could play non zombie creatures out of the graveyard
I haven't drawn it in the three games I played since adding it. But I was whiffing a lot. It's also why I added ashes of the fallen so I could play non zombie creatures out of the graveyard
Unfortunately G&G states "creature card" so, unless you have another way of constantly playing this from your GY, it doesn't work with G&G
It does say it's every creature type at all times. Am I reading it wrong? I could be and that's fine, just thought I might have a sneaky Swiss Army knife there.
The engine for this deck is obviously being able to dump your best zombie cards in order to recast them with G&G, so that has affected some of the choices I've made for draw, ETB & LTB triggers and so forth.
