Back in the day my friend used to run a Damia artifacts matter deck that always looked like alot of fun even though we felt the general was lackluster. Now I believe there is finally the right guy and gal for such a deck to shine. The idea here is to combine cheap artifact creatures that can interact with +1/+1 counter shenanigans to make an unholy union of Sultai artifact aggression. This is my first draft of the list so it will come off as a bit unfocused as I begin testing. The main plan so far is to drop +1/+1 counter creatures early with Reyhan, Last of the Abzan to create larger threats and then later deploy Silas Renn, Seeker Adept to recur any fallen artifacts and keep pressure on.
I have included a few slower infinite combos to give the deck some different options for closing out games via (Pili-Pala and Grand Architect) or (Nim Deathmantle, Ashnod's Altar, and one of the token generators). These seemed like the most solid options as even outside of their respective combos the individual pieces still help the game plan along. In addition I'm also deciding if I want to go heavier into a life drain plan via (Disciple of the Vault, Zulaport Cutthroat, Underhanded Designs, etc.) or perhaps focus more on commander damage as both generals like to turn sideways. The deck should up and running by next weekend to get some testing done and as I have more time I will include more detailed card explanations. For now I would really appreciate any input on cards I may have missed, cards that seem to be out of place, or how any of you might be planning to build these two! Thanks for any and all feedback
What is Epochrasite for?
How easy is it to pull off Sage of Hours?
Here are some additions that I think might be worth considering:
Skullclamp should really be an auto-include. Is there a reason you've excluded it?
Key to the City can help anything connect, helps set up Silas, and provides card draw.
Birthing Pod helps you churn through your creatures faster to find business.
Time Sieve is another infinite turns alternative that requires a little more set up than Sage of Hours, but it's an artifact so it's tutorable.
Verdurous Gearhulk and Noxious Gearhulk are midrange options to beef up the team.
Animation Module can provide a steady stream of tokens for extra sac fodder.
Crystalline Crawler is also a solid creature that can do some dumb stuff with it's mana potential.
I have a few questions about some card choices:
What is Epochrasite for?
How easy is it to pull off Sage of Hours?
Epochrasite serves multiple roles in this deck. Once it dies it can be a repeatable (albeit slow) source of counters while Reyhan is out. In addition if it somehow ends up in the graveyard Silas can pull it out with the counters.
In the first two games I have played I have yet to see Sage of Hours but with Reyhan or Ezuri I can't imagine it will be too difficult to get to 5. I do admit this might just be too gimmicky though.
I don't know how I missed Skullclamp but I will definitely find room for it over the weekend. I think that Key to the City also deserves a tryout as it is super synergistic with both commanders and helps fill the yard. Crystalline Crawler might get a second look as well as generating counters to itself could prove useful. Birthing Pod could also be a solid plan B but I'd need to rework my curve. I already have Verdurous Gearhulk in the deck and it actually did alot of work with Reyhan and Academy Ruins in my first run. I don't quite know if I want to add Noxious to the deck. I also have considered Time Sieve but overall 5 artifacts can be pretty steep unless I consider something like Thopter Asssembly for a combo kill.
Right now I think the biggest thing I'm trying to do is give the deck focus in the main path to victory. Overall the modular creatures weren't as great as I had initially thought as they need two targets in play (one artifact/one not) so I cut back on them. I think equipment and sac outlets should be what I get back with Silas along with value artifact creatures and make the bulk of the deck work more with Reyhan who can definitely get out of control fast. Maybe a token route using more cards like Animation Module or other Thopter Generators could see some testing.
And the one last gem: Phyrexian Devourer.
With your commander, you can dump a whole lot of counters on your creatures, because its first ability (the one that triggers if it has power 7 or greater) can be responded to, with its OWN ABILITY. Meaning you can respond to each new instance of having power 7 or greater by exiling more cards. When you have a sufficiently large creature and with Reyhan in play, let it die. Then its counters will dump onto another target creature.
Putting these counters on Triskelion will kill the whole table given you haven't drawn half your library.
With KCI (Krark-Clan Ironworks) and Pentavus, you can make a token, sacrifice it for 2 mana, then use that two mana to continue to create a very, very large army,
Given enough tokens with Sharding Sphinx and Time Sieve, 5 tokens will get in for damage every turn allowing you to sac them all again for another turn to rinse and repeat.
In addition, Time Sieve with something like Myr Battlesphere and an unblockable Silas will also allow for infinite turns.
Modular triggers twice with Reyhan. Modular and Reyhan will both trigger, meaning sacrificing Modular creatures doubles your counters. You should add more sac outlets and Modular creatures!
Mikaeus + Sac Outlet + Triskelion/Crystalline Crawler/Mindless Automaton/Workhorse= Infinite
You don't even need sac outlets for Triskelion/Mindless Automaton/Workhorse.
And, perhaps Atraxa, Praetors' Voice in 99 as well? She is a beater who synergies with your deck.
Atraxa doesn't work because she is four color and this deck is Sultai.
I had an idea for this deck pop in my head earlier today, but I think I would build mine a little differently. Some other suggestions would be Corpsejack Menace, Etched Oracle, Fertilid, Sage of Fables, and even though it may be a little bit overcosted, Death's Presence which gives you another Reyhan-like effect. My build was going more artifact heavy with more sac and recursion. I can post a list once it's finished and see what you think.
EDIT: Mycosynth Lattice might not be bad either to add even more recursion potential with Silas and Glissa.
