Why Play Tasigur?
Background
I want to make a list full of value and continuous interaction with creatures entering the battlefield. Tasigur is used with an instant and sorcery focus much of the time but the same can be true to keep value generating through ETB creatures. Looking into the idea more I want to make Birthing Pod a focus of the deck. It chains me into other interactions and gets my more potent creatures into play. With this in mind I feel that Sultai best suits the idea due to black and blue being able to tutor artifacts well. Just so happens that Tasigur is great at generating value through his recursion capability, so it fits very well into the whole scheme of the idea. I want to hone the list and make it as competitive as possible. Sultai gives us a large variety of good ETB creatures and great utility options as well as finishers. I look to add more to the thread as time goes on to make into a primer or at least a good resource for other's looking to use Tasigur to his greatest effect. Using Tasigur
The choice to use Tasigur, the Golden Fang came as I decided a focus I wanted a deck to go in. Using enter the battlefield creatures and Birthing Pod was where I started. So green was a must. Blue and Black came in since they tutor for artifacts well. In came Tasigur. He added value to our plays by being able to recur our creatures many times, albeit at the opponents choice. But when all of our creatures have value to them, it doesn't matter really what creature we get back. Even if it is a simple Wood Elves, we get value so we can activate Tasigur more times with the mana and he's a body on the field. Hard to pass up that kind of value. I want to make a list that flows smoothly with mana, card draw, managing the board, and finishing out games. Adding a mix of abilities at each converted mana cost is the best way to achieve this so no matter what we pod into, there is usually something to help us out in a situation we need it in. Card advantage, removal, ramp, and board presence is all wrapped together at each CMC to make sure it is a well greased engine. Tasigur helps us achieve what we need by delving out what we don't need anymore and maintaining what we do. I feel he is the best choice for this type of a build. Why Play Tasigur?
Tasigur is for you if:
Playing a creature based deck is your thing
Value play after value play
You like strong synergies
Combat is what makes the game
Tasigur is NOT for you if:
Comboing off turn 4 is the only way to win
All graveyards must go
Attacking is overrated
Killing all the things is a MUST
I look to continue adding more to this and improving what I have here. If there are any recommendations comments are welcome! I want to make this as value filled as possible getting the most out of Birthing Pod and my creatures so if there are any other creatures that anyone can think of that will be better than an option I have, please let me know. Thanks for taking time to look at it and enjoy!
I was able to play a couple games with him today and he worked very well. After poding off an entomber exarch with skullclamp into a mulldrifter I got a handful of cards including Avenger of Zendikar.next turn played Avenger and got 9 tokens. This proceeded to end the game poding into craterhoof behemoth. Two games two wins by tutoring what I needed. It was fantastic. One game tasigur instigated an Avenger after delving 5 and poding into him.
I will keep testing new cards to see how they all work.
