- - -. . INTRODUCTION . .- - -
Welcome to the deck list of my real life EDH deck, it's the only one I currently have sitting in sleeves and has gone through extensive overhauls since it was first sleeved up. One thing I will note first is that I do have to keep budget in mind when it comes to this deck, so upgrading it tends to be slow and some of the more expensive cards out there will simply be unaffordable to me, so please keep this in mind when commenting and offering suggestions.
This thread is about the fourth incarnation of the deck, as after some time of thinking about my deck and it's improving progress I felt that the deck could use some freshening up as well as bring back more theme and strategy into the deck. As the previous version's theme was just less efficient and a tad bit jumbled after several overhauls and months of upgrading. Below you will find the deck list of how my deck was before going ahead with this new overhaul and direction, moving forward the most important changes will be that there is a new Commander leading the charge and that I have switched out a wolf token strategy for a saproling token strategy, but more on that in a bit.
The deck I'm running is a token driven one, but instead of going for just mass tokens I prefer some flavor and to try and focus on certain types of tokens. When I made my first deck I wanted to build around wolves and werewolves, though as time passed the deck just lacked competitiveness and had a major issue dealing with flyers. With the release of Dragons of Tarkir I ran into a card I felt was 'the' solution to my problem; Descent of the Dragons. It has since become the pet card of this deck and the main goal was to try and produce many wolf tokens and use this card to turn them all into big dragons.
Up till now I was running Marath to lead that charge, but he was more in a supportive role than actively helping out with things. But when reconsidering the deck I ran into Rith, the Awakener and well a dragon is more suitable to lead the charge. And seeing it's abilities it became an easy decision to change up the strategy as well, since there are far more ways to produce saproling tokens than wolf tokens and thus my new list was born.

The list here is the first version of the overhaul and thus some tweaking is still going to happen, so to smoothen out all the changes that were made, but felt that it was best to playtest this list first and see where it needs improving most as well as gather opinions and suggestions from others for it. After all, I am working on a budget and don't want to end up investing in too many cards that won't make the cut.
While the deck has slowly been going through some changes and started to take on a decent new shape, there are still some cards I am considering to put in the deck. I will be listing these cards below, as would love to get an opinion on whether to add them or not.
Martial Coup, token generation and a potential wrath, does produce soldier tokens though.
Deploy to the Front, a good way to put out a lot of tokens to abuse, but again they are soldiers.
Impact Tremors, maybe as an alternative for Warstorm Surge.
And since Battle for Zendikar is right around the corner as well, I will also keep a small list of cards I'm looking to add to the deck once the new set is released.
Well, I am aiming for it to be more a Saproling Deck which has Descent of the Dragons as a pet card that can add a fun twist to things. I'm more than likely going to be siding out all the other dragons in the deck because of this as well. But I might see about running Dragon Tempest and/or Scourge of Valkas in the deck and see how they play out as my usual playgroup will obviously expect Descent to be in the deck, but when taking it elsewhere I might switch them out so not to telegraph a potential Descent too much. If I happen to like the inclusion of Scourge and Tempest I might see about getting Utvara Hellkite as well, but for now it would strain my budget too much anyways.
So having tinkered around with the deck a bit more and having gotten a few more cards to slot in, I think I'm at a spot where I'm happy enough to call this a starting base for the deck's new form. From here on I plan on improving the deck as it is and as I play with it, while also starting to keep track of a bit of a changelog for the deck. I haven't done the latter just yet since roughly half the deck got changed up.
Noteable cards I took out for now are Martial Coup and Deploy to the Front as while great cards they do produce Soldier tokens and I want to see how the deck runs without them and a more focused strategy of Saprolings, Dragons and Spirit tokens.
On the other hand I did decide to give Awakening Zone a try in this deck as an alternative way to produce some mana and get potential sac fodder.
Cards that I'm currently not too sure about are: Sword of the Animist - I've not drawn it enough to get a feel of how it actually plays out in this deck and decide whether I need it. Vivid Crag - A tapped land that in most cases can't be tutored for, it does fix and can be bounced. Am keeping the Vivid Meadow in though as it happens to be a signed copy.

Also, still undecided on the following card options right now:
Cathars' Crusade or Mikaeus, the Lunarch
Reap and Sow or Rith's Charm
Warstorm Surge or Impact Tremors
Are you still running the deck?
