Hi, I'm new to edh. My cousin started playing this format for a few months and wanted me to get into it. I'm trying to be build my first edh deck but not too sure which route I want to go in. This is a table top deck that I want to be fun but competitive given my cousin and our friends as some pretty good decks. I have played a few games of edh. This is by no means a full deck list. It's mostly a rough draft of cards I'm thinking of using. I'm not sure if I want to go reanimator route or crazy spells with omniscience. I look at edh as a fun deck where you play cards you normally wouldn't in a 60 card deck. That's why I want to use omnisciencelorescale coatl, chasm skulker, and pack rats were cards that I always wanted to make a deck out of (not together) but never had time. I don't know how my lands will look at the end. Any advice be very helpful. Thanks
I mean, it's a fine deck that does the things Damia wants to do.
For starters, get rid of Sylvan Primordial. It's banned in Commander, so unless you've got a house rule allowing it (totally cool, if you do!) it's an illegal card. For the rest of the banned list, check here, though that is the only problem card I saw in the list.
Maybe look into a little more ramp? Since you've got access to green, there's not reason not to. But, you might feel like you can get by without it. If so, that's cool. How many basic lands are you running? It's hard to get an idea where you stand on lands without listing them.
And, hey. There's nothing wrong with just playing the cards you like. That's sort of the point of this format.
updated my list. is 31 lands enough? and are there lands i'm missing? i'll see how the deck runs and if i need more ramp i can add cultivate and maybe rampant growth since i have a ton of them in my collection
31 is pretty low. Most people would rather run closer to 38-40. I mean, you can try it out, but you'll have a much easier time hitting your land drops with more. Especially running three colors, you'll want plenty of color fixing, which means more lands, which often means more ramp spells to get those lands. Cultivate is good, but I'd rather something like Explosive Vegetation, Skyshroud Claim, or maybe Growth Spasm personally. Also, more ways to make use of Sakura-Tribe Elder, Solemn Simulacrum, and Coiling Oracle would all be good.
i'm at 38 lands now and added yavimaya elderfar wanderings and skyshroud claim for ramp. i'm way over the 100 cards (including commander) right now and need to try to make cuts. i can always playtest to see what i like too. some cards i probably won't get right away like lilana of the veil (pretty sure i can get one off my cousin).anything stands out as a must cut?
Just at a glance I have a few ideas, but this is just creatures. I'll look at the spells later, when I have more time. Also, this is just my opinion, and don't take it as perfect, please. I have my play style like you have yours, so if you really want to play one of these suggestions, ignore me and do it.
Magus of the Library - you've got a lot of other, better card draw that is less conditional.
Magus of the Jar - I'm not real sure the point of it in the deck, unless it's to fill up graveyards, and if it is, then I'm not sure what your plan is after that. I mean you've got stuff like Sepulchral Primordial and Diluvian Primordial, I guess. Maybe this one is fine. I prefer, if you're going to have some discard, to have a lot of it and take advantage of it with something like Liliana's Caress, Waste Not, Nath of the Gilt-Leaf, and Geth's Grimoire. At that point, though, you're building a completely different deck.
Den Protector - This might be a really good commander card, but I'm just not sure about it yet.
Woodfall Primus - Certainly has some value, but it's expensive, and unless you have a way to really abuse the persist ability, I'm not sure it's worth the cost.
I'm curious what you see as the win conditions in the deck? That might help figure out what kind of cuts are best. I really don't want to steer you in a direction you don't want to go, you know?
i was thinking reanimator with omniscience to cast some bombs but i didn't want to commit too much to reanimator because of most of them play graveyard hate. i was thinking of using geth, lord of the vault along with havengul lich to steal their creatures from the graveyard. the problem with havengul is i don't have many activated abilities. i was thinking a more control too by adding some of these counter spells in but not sure how well they would work. [countermand, desertion, draining whelk, induce paranoia, psychic strike, or spelljack. i don't mean to add all of them in but they can help fill up graveyards. also the additional of yawgmoth's will. i kinda know this deck doesn't really have a true identity yet. i could get rid of voidslime to fit one in. still 5 cards over.
Not having an identity is fine! The most fun thing about Commander, to me, is playtesting and finding that identity through actual real life situations.
Here's what I'd say. Omniscience is awesome, especially with Damia, because you'll always have a full hand of cards. Aim for that, and throw in all the really big, fun haymakers you own that you've always wanted to play. Then, as you're playing the deck more and more, you'll find which stuff really works well for you, and which stuff doesn't. Then adjust accordingly.
I think you're really on to something with this deck, and I think it's just a few tweaks from being ready. Unfortunately, you might not know what those tweaks are until you've played the deck a few times.

I like a lot of the other stuff. Since you've got a pretty big card drawing theme, you might consider Consecrated Sphinx, Prime Speaker Zegana, and Laboratory Maniac.
Maybe look into a little more ramp? Since you've got access to green, there's not reason not to. But, you might feel like you can get by without it. If so, that's cool. How many basic lands are you running? It's hard to get an idea where you stand on lands without listing them.
