I've been playing EDH for about 1.5 years now and I'm looking to shape my first competitive deck. What started off as Oloro Stax list soon became Sydri due to my love for her abilities and interactions with cards like Mycosynth Lattice. Regarding play style, I want to play Sydri to lock-up the board as tightly as possible, then implement the most accessible game plan to start taking players out.
I've been tested this deck a few times and found that I either lock up the board tightly to start assembling gameplan pieces or I never get there and end up durdling pretty hard. For transparency, I've based this decklist on what I've seen online and from the Stax Primer listed on this very website.
With my next paycheck, I plan on including necessary tutors such as Demonic Tutor and Enlightened Tutor. Apart from that, I'm not sure what to add. I've forsaken artifacts like Caltrops for now because I find it too cute and often a dead draw.
I'm open to any suggestion---even a change in the deck's mechanics. Someone suggested I veer away from Stax (since it paints a large target on my head in 4-man pods) and I go full control. I'm also contemplating if I should go aggro-combo. The only limitation to any card suggestions is that I can't see myself dropping $50 or more on a single card. Apart from that, I'm willing to invest and make this my primary deck.
Some of the gameplans I have planned are:
1. Rings of Brighthearth + Basalt Monolith + Debt to the Deathless
2. Sharuum the Hegemon + Disciple of the Vault + Phyrexian Metamorph
3. Sydri, Galvanic Genius + Disciple of the Vault + Seat of the Synod + Salvaging Station
4. Lock out everyone's lands, then start attacking in with large artifacts like Darksteel Forge or my available mana rocks.
