A subtitle for this deck might be "what does that card do?" Not only for Horobi, Death's Wail itself, but for many other obscure card choices.
I'd like to think that this deck straddles the intersection of budget, creativity, function, winning, and cleverness. That said, I've only gotten to play it once, and that was an earlier version, so I really don't know.
The overall strategy is to take advantage of Horobi and how its ability interacts with regenerating and indestructible creatures, namely the ones I control. As such, my deck leans towards these card choices. I did some research here on the forums, especially with the dnLL's decklist on the front page, but also others in the archives.
First things first, I see that I am running far too few lands. Related to this is the relatively high average cmc; I think it will do fine against many decks in my meta, especially after I add more land. I also note that my conversion from a super-heavy discard deck into this deck missed a few bits, so some cards will be easy cuts when the time comes.
There are a few pet cards in here, specifically Black Knight (fifth edition for art AND quote), Phylactery Lich, Baneful Omen, Last Laugh, Restless Dead, and Nightmare (M14 art). These are staying.
Other observations: The Darksteel stuff is for the Phylactery Lich and Worldslayer, it sticking after Horobi hits play is bonus. The deck includes many tricks to kill with Horobi, like Desert, Bullwhip, Dauthi Embrace, Dauthi Trapper, Cuombajj Witches, Drana, Fevered Convulsions, Staff of Nin, and ye olde Cauldron of Souls. Oasis and Touch of Darkness are in the mail. About Cuombajj Witches, I am hoping opponents have fun with it, picking off others' things, rather than mine - I guess it depends on the meta and board state.
Christmas brings me all the C14 decks, so Sol Ring and others may end up in here by Friday.
Comments are always welcome.
Cheers!
