"If you yourself can withstand three cheers at beholding these vivacious fish, then heaven help ye; the spirit of godly gamesomeness is not in ye."
-Ishmael
Yes, this is a Whelming Wave deck. It is helmed by Thassa, God of the Sea and pulls all the stops on Big Fishy Blue flavor. No merfolk,no DENs, no Snapcaster Mage or pesky planeswalkers. Just straight up hardcore Leviathans, Kraken, starfish, real big fish, squid, sunken treasure, and camarids.
For the record: Sea's Claim is 9th edition art, Confiscate is 7th edition art, and High Tide is the version with the coral reef and sealife.
I think I've pushed it pretty far. I think I can probably push it further. Who wants to help transform my Thassa deck into a Magical Geographic special on the life aquatic?
I don't know if you roll with the Eldrazi, but Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre is a sea god. Or at least the one the merfolk of Zendikar worship as Ula. Fits the theme and is a great finisher. But not everyone likes to play them. Also All is Dust as removal maybe?

I considered the Eldrazi, but I decided I only wanted to stick with actual blue, aquatic creatures. All is Dust doesn't have enough ocean flavor.
I'm gonna take a long look at this when I have the time. I've been wanting to build something similar for a while now.
These are my first thoughts:
- Halimar Depths Has nice flavor and is useful
- Seafloor Debris Not really good but nice flavorwise
- I don't really like Dandân. It's really flavorfull, but not really a good card
I'll def throw is Halimar Depths.
Seafloor is nice, but not super practical in the deck.
That being said, I understand Dandân isn't the most practical either, but he's a turn 2 blocker that can attack once I get Sea's Claim or Spreading Seas on board, and he's always fodder for Polymorph and Proteus Staff
How about Walking Sponge? I think it's a must have. There's only one Sponge in Magic after all! And...it's not only flavorfull, but also really useful
Oh man! This one got by me because I kept searching for creature types like fish and leviathan, never thought about searching for a sponge! It'll mos def go is as soon as I get a copy.
Just played a game with this deck yesterday. It was quite enjoyable. ramped into a turn 3 Giant Oyster, Proteus Staffed it into Lorthos, the Tidemaker, then equipped Surestrike trident and went to town. It's a really fun deck.
Oooh, I like Wall of Kelp for Polymorph/Mass Polymorph shenanigans. Sunken City will be good to pump my Camarids. The plan is to either sac a Leviathan to Homarid Spawning Bed for Mass Polymorph, or to create chump blockers/guys to swarm with. So Sunken City will give me some nice 2/2 camarids.
Ghost Ship has high seas and human folklore vibes, but not enough mysteries of the deep vibes.
