Agree with so much you've all said. I am constructing a fun 1 on 1 commander deck with more quick red burn for early control (Galvanic Blast, Chain of Plasma & Fiery Temper included) and mana rocks (plus Generator Servant & Cathodion) to ramp up into big artifacts (just picked up a foil Gleemax for a song, better than that infected colossus IMO) as well as global land destruction strategies (red pitch spells work here) or big impact dragons (Covetous Dragon works well). Got some orbs, a bridge, and Tangle Wire for more control. With 30-31 lands, mostly mountains, a Goblin Charbelcher works wonders in my deck. Don't forget a Gamble.
I apologize for not highlighting the cards mentioned above, I am technologically challenged.
From what I've seen, I would play blood moon/magus of that same moon, the wraths (jokulhops, devastation, obliterate). Considering that Daretti lives through it, and its an answer against aggro decks, it doesnt sound that bad. I'd Also like to suggest sundering titan with ensnaring bridge. This is starting to look like a mud legacy list imo.
See your point here. I think folk are overlooking Daretti's quick appearance and the power of sifting for quick red burn/control strategies like Anger the Gods or Chain Lightning, and playing quick control artifacts so as to make lands much less necessary for this commander. Ramping up into big monsters is too often predictable in duel commander. Ramping up with Su-Chi to cycle a red Decree using Daretti is juicy and you may possibly return a powerful artifact out of your graveyard.
Some of your choices look odd or "questionable" (at least to me, anyway, but I'd love to hear your justification to them). In the meantime, I brewed this up in, oh, about fifteen minutes that should provide a solid guideline to build off of.
Workshop is more than good in this deck! It's banned. And I know that darksteel forge is a "staple" in commander artifact decks, but i feel that whenever you'd draw it, its a dead card that wont resolve. Soul of new Phyrexia is another one I hadn't thought of. I would also consider Scuttling doom Engine. Does not seem bad in this.
In regards to karn the creature, I'm not sure how I feel about him. Sure, he animates your guys to bring aggro/wall yourself in, but I feel he's a tad costy.
I would also recommend more mana rocks(prismatic lens, coldsteel heart, mind stone, etc..). Mind stone for value, drawing more and such.
And coercive portal! and Staff of Nin! Both are quite juicy!
Why not slagstorm, or pyroclasm, or volcanic fallout? Removal is pretty good last time I checked. Until true name comes along and ruins our day :C
Not too fond of the nim deathmantle, just seems really meh.
Finally after all of that, trading post is INSANE in this! I underestimated it at first, but holy *****. bonkers. Just bonkers. Hope this helps!
You sure Workshop is banned in Duel-Commander? I was under the impression it's too niche (only good in one deck).
Doom Engine (that name still cracks me up) was in but Duplicant took its place. I feel this is the correct choice.
If you're hardcasting Forge you're doing it wrong lol. You Daretti it out. Weld it out. Forgemaster it out.
And Karn makes 1 stone rains with Lattice...which combos with Disk...which combos with Forge.
Deathmantle combos with the Su-Chi/Cathodion guys. It may be not optimal enough, but the interaction with those guys and Deathmantle is infinite mana, which leads to a huge Bonfire of the Damned FTW. I believe that is worth testing.
I think you only skimmed the list and you didn't see the removal/sweepers in the list. This list can't go overboard on those kind of cards because then you're diluting the deck's overall focus. It's a balance.
Nim Deathmantle is as good a strategy as any other I figure. Your Sphere and Thorn may trip up your Bridge. You may need more defense against flyers. With a Deathmantle, you can always recurse an artifact loving dragon. I am trying less artifact creatures and more impacting artifacts like Contagion Engine and Mirror Universe. We'll see how that goes.

You may be right about Bridge vs Sphere effects. I could replace Bridge with Trinisphere (which is also pro versus Maelstrom and many other decks that play more than one spell a turn).
Deathmantle seems pretty bad IMO. You need to pay 4 mana so you need cathodion and ironworks.
You can easily play snowcovered lands and skred. Arbound reclaimer and arbound crusher might be interesting. Myr incubator EOT and win?
I cant waint till my commander deck arive
Without KCI, if Deathmantle costs us 1 to return Cathodion (and it's 0 to recur Su-Chi) then that seems acceptable -- that leaves a 5/5 intimidate body to continually bash our opponent in the face.
Skred requires more basic lands (which may be the correct choice anyway) because every nonbasic land makes your Skred that much less consistent. I'd only feel comfortable with Skred's inclusion at 27+ basics.
I do not see Hoarding Dragon being good enough here because we do not have enough ways to reliably sacrifice him (our outlets are artifact-centric). Torpor Orb is shutting off a lot of the value we're anticipating (Solemn Sim, PilEye, Dualcaster) and I am not sure we can afford to give that up (what does it offer versus the top decks? surely it's blank vs Wydwen and GAAIV and is merely "OK" vs Ezuri and Prossh).
While REB/Pyro are strong, you don't have a way to tutour these. So you "get lucky" and draw them first (not a plan I want to bank on at any point) or you add more resiliency to recover better. Squee is not comboing here at all. We don't get a lot of draw, so we need to make sure our 100 cards count. Squee is out of place in this deck.
What exactly are you using Rings of Brighthearth with in this deck? Yeah you can copy Slaver...but that's the definition of win-more, right?
Bazaar may have a spot. It puts Sundering Titan or other uncastables in the grave, and draws a couple of cards. I could put it over Crystal vein? (No, it needs to replace a spell, if it goes in).
Completely forgot about the bazaar! Yea, that seems pretty decent, along with trinisphere too. Skred is also definitely worth finding a spot for, snow mountains are quite easy to find these days. I would still keep bridge in, mainly because it slows down the aggro decks, like marath and such. I'll brew something like this on cockatrice soon, and see where I can go with it.
That list was a first rough draft, but I am glad it has been a good launching point for a lot of other discussions. I'm eager to see Daretti become a thing, because I truly, honestly, believe it will be.

It depends on how many utility lands you're cutting to make sure Skred is as consistent as possible. It's just not a "jam this in every deck" card that you seem to be implying it is. So the first step is to determine just which lands we absolutely can't live without, and which lands are "nice, but extraneous". But at the moment I am thinking to add Expedition Map and Bazaar of Baghdad.
I think every one of those descriptions is the pinnacle of win-more, and as such, I feel Rings aren't helping us win, moreso just modifying the way we win.
How about Mirrorworks? I know this is another suggestion a la Rings of Brighthearth, but my friend is playing a Slobad list in multiplayer and it is one of the best cards in his deck.
I would consider adding Lightning Greaves too, as there seem to be guys you might want to keep around. Forgemaster is nuts with haste.
What is the point of Price of Progress in this deck? Is it an effect this deck would care about? Is it there to kill planeswalkers? I do not think the deck pressures opponent's life total enough as it is, though I like its synergy with stax elements (opponent is less likely to play around it). Bonfire of the Damned - no tutors or ways to set it up. I think Rolling Earthquake or Sudden Demise is likely better.
Mirrorworks is bad. You also said one phrase there "multiplayer", but we're building a 1v1 deck. Outside of Forgemaster, I'm not too excited to see Boots.
Price may be an oversight. I play so many red "sligh" builds, that it just leaps to the front of my decklists by default. I think you may be right and it isn't necessary. May add in some other form of nonbasic disruption, like From the Ashes or some such.
I'll fight you to the end on Bonfire though. It's one-sided. It hits all of their guys, and it hits them. And it happens to work with the Deathmantle stuff, if that goes through. Sudden Demise doesn't hit players, and Rolling Earthquake is too symmetrical, so neither of these quite fill the roll Bonfire is filling. However to that end, I believe a Scroll Rack is in order.
Workhorse isn't the same as Su-Chi - it needs to have the counters removed to add mana, as opposed to just being sacrificed (ergo, it doesn't work with KCI unless it was already equipped...and I don't want to pay the equip cost ever). It's also six mana. There's a ton of other six drops we could be playing, and this deck is very top heavy already. Good call though (he might warrant inclusion anyway).
I don't think Lavamancer is a good idea since we're playing out of our 'Yard. Precursor Golem strikes me as too much liability for not enough reward. Also, why would we weld this guy on the board and not any other fattie? Do we just hardcast it if Daretti is in play? Seems situational then. Also, Repeal for x = 0 makes your golems sad while giving them an Ancestral Recall (funny story, I Repealed someone's Everflowing Chalice that was kicked three times. He rage-scooped promptly).
I don't think The Chain Veil is worth it because we don't have enough other planeswalkers in the deck.
I totally see what 3Drinks says about Workhorse...kind of clunky. Precursor Golem is a high risk/high reward card...beware. A good utility infielder could be Deal Broker. Bal mentioned it earlier and I am picking one up for my deck. Wish I had a Bazaar, though.
With all the mana rocks in a mono-colored deck, do you need more than 34-35 lands? I am streamlining my mana sources to 30-31 lands with 26 mountains (snow mountains if you are a Skred fan), just so I can use the Charbelcher properly. If your group loves multi-colored decks, you could add a Dust Bowl to shake things up.

I'm fairly certain playing 31-34 lands with a Dust Bowl is just asking for trouble...
You're probably right with the decks above, but I'm running a full array of cheap red burn and an isochron, plus a few more mana rocks. Less creatures and more burn...but still 30 artifacts.
Checked out the typical Wydwen deck...only had 15 basics. Obliterate, Decree of Annihilation, Ruination, Devastation, (even a Dust Bowl with 34-35 land) plus the disruption you already mention, could force this opponent to accept red damage like Pyroclasms and Anger the Gods (the uncounterable Volcanic Fallout is sweet). Including a Ruby Medallion could push some spells through and gives you another artifact. I also noted the Wydwen deck's ability to copy or kidnap. Quick red burn resets things and a Reverberate could cap this aggressive strategy or defend against control. Anger would be a nice throwaway along with Fiery Temper with Daretti. With the big red reset spells mentioned earlier, throwing in a Blazing Shoal could be a kick in the cojones. I hope any of this helps.
Just checked out the Gatherer...if you have a creature heavy Daretti deck, Shivan Harvest would so hurt Wydwen and her biting snails. My Wydwen commands a zombie tribe...not nearly as cut-throat as the tier 1 Wydwen deck lists I researched. Best of luck!
Great build! Awesome ideas! This deck is just like my deck, its has probably 10 cards difference.I also have an infinite mana combo but instead of using nim death mantle it uses cloud key. Can you find the combo I'm talking about? It creates infinite storm and infinite colorless mana and you already have all the cards in your deck to make it work (besides cloud key of course).
My thought exactly. Combos like this I just don't see happening in a competitive 1v1 game. Moreover, Nim Deathmantle may seems exciting at first, but in 1v1 games its comboing will unlikely see the light of day let alone go off. I like Cathodion & Su-Chi to more immediately be sacrificed to Daretti's -2 ability to pay for a land global destruction spell or cycling decree...bringing back something indestructibly dark steel. This scenario seems to me more plausible.
I really, really want to justify a Steel Hellkite. This is probably incorrect, but can anyone else justify it with me? Of six drops Duplicant, Wurmcoil, & Doom Engine are all instantly better. But a repeatable Engineered Explosives on legs with evasion has got to be worth ssoemthing. Right? Right?
you can't as you need to decide the target before paying for costs.
steel hellkite has to be big in mono-red, you can never have too many destroy enchantment effects in this color. testing it myself in Norin (with daretti as one of the 99), please note your thoughts about it when you play it.
Realy? Because it isnt sac an artefact: return artefact but sac an artefact, if you do return..
edit: ok I asked a judge, its not possible:frown:
You have to choose both targets as you announce the abilities. So at the time you activate Welder, the target on the battlefield is not a legal target for the second part as it isn't in a graveyard.
3drinks: I dont know, I think it might be better than doom engine or kuldotha phoenix. PS: you are still not playing imperial recruiter Any particular reason?
I like the Phoenix because it is a self-recurring, hasty evasive threat. I don't think Steel Hellkite is better than what Phoenix is bringing to the table.
Good question on Recruiter. He never popped in my head, which to me is telling because that's a sign that he isn't necessary. It finds Welder. Ok? I don't care about it after that. A three cmc 1/1 non-artifact body is irrelevant, although not-so if the deck also has access to Birthing Pod. This deck does not.
Ok, completely forgot about magus. Imperial recruiter is DEFINITELY worth running because of both of those guys. I was only looking at him for just finding welder. Now I'm convinced that he's justified in this. I've been thinking about the hellkite for a while, and having a flyer that can continuously break your opponents board is neat, I still would rather see the pheonix over that. Also, have you guys considered L.E.D.? Same idea as the lotus bloom, but having a t2 daretti seems bonkers to me, then using his +2 until you find relevant things. Another card I've been debating if it's too cute was Ugin's nexus. Thoughts?
