BBBOB NIXILIS OF THE BLACK OATHBBB

Hey everyone, here is my take on a mono black control list for multiplayer EDH. Basically Im using all the little graveyard recursive creatures that I can think of in conjunction with cards like Necrogen Mists, Bottomless Pit, Unnerve and Syphon Mind to disrupt everyone else's hands. There's lots of ways to stop aggro and combo decks here and slowly grind out a win with big beaters, Bloodchief Ascension or a nice Exsanguinate.

Some words on Ob Nixilis: Ob is deceptively powerful in a control shell. Pooping out flying demons is a lot better than it sounds. Sure his +2 doesn't put you ahead by all that much but the fact that he's a planeswalker makes him hard to remove outside combat damage. They have to get by at LEAST a 5/5 flying and most likely some other fodder creature and all of your removal. In the 7 games I've played so far with this deck, I've never reached his ultimate and never needed to.

All cool cards for sure. The only reason I don't run the sword is because I prefer the lifegain effect of the warhammer in here as the deck can be hard on my life total sometimes. (And I don't own one haha)

What cards do you feel are week enough to be replaced? I will use grave pact over Attrition it seems

I would probably start by cutting single target removal like Murder / GftT / Sudden Death and discard like Duress / Mind Sludge / Unnerve. I understand you're going for a theme here but these cards are really weaksauce if you don't have Waste Not in play. I would rather play More card draw, tutors and wrath effects to make the deck operate better. I'm also personally not a fan of cards like Bloodchief Ascension, Paindful Quandary or Exquisite Blood because the rest of the table will hate you out when these hit the table.

I would really like Dark Prophecy and Abhorrent Overlord here. They're not 100% fitting thematically but Prophecy is till an amazing CA-engine with any of the recursive threats and a sac outlet, and Abhorrent Overlord can easily stall the board while giving food for your Skullclamp.

Toxic Deluge isn't super cheap but I think it's a paramount spell for this deck, too.

Like you said, Im trying a more "Discard Matters" approach since that allows me to interact with other players. I want a "we're all this together so nobody can have a perfect hand" kind of game. What this deck mainly wants to be is an interactive mono black control deck that destroys combo decks. I may have to get a bit more creative.

I really want to be playing cards like lethal vapors. Anybody know of similar cards?

-1 Night's Whisper: I'm gonna try Dark Prophecy instead. In the long run I'm sure it will draw me more cards
-1 Loxodon Warhammer: Nothing is really beating in this deck so this seemed kinda pointless
-1 Black Sun's Zenith: Too slow and I can't afford Damnation
+1 Words of Waste: Great with all the extra draw effects. Could clear the hands quite easily
+1 Dark Prophecy: The more I see it, the more I love it : )
+1 Oblivion Stone: A controllable board wipe that helps get rid of pesky enchantments while potentially keeping my own intact.

Also is there room for Sorin Markov and Liliana Vess? Also perhaps Erebos, God of the Dead would be a nice as a finisher. (Who also disrupts lifegain)

I'm looking for something to replaced Mind Slash. Its not really getting the job done : ( It was meant to be anti combo but sorcery speed pretty much screws it over. Any other anti-combo cards in black you can think of? I think I like Contamination but I'm not sure I have enough creature recursion to run it. I was also thinking of trying Cabal Conditioning. Not sure what I would cut though. I'd like to cut something around the same CMC. Exquisite Blood is kinda win more...

Monomania?

Oppression might work for you. It doesn't have the precision of Mind Slash or potential for huge blowouts like Conditioning (unless somebody willingly dumps their hand), but it can cause multiple discards per turn which most of your other discard enchants don't provide.

Good suggestions guys! Im wondering where i would fit Grim Affliction. Oppression seems really nice but definitely hurts me. The more I've played with Mind Slash the more powerful I realize it is. Sometimes just the information about somebody's hand is better than the targeted discard. I'm gonna keep it for now.

You're right about the Crypt. Its pretty bad haha.

I just acquired a Gate to Phyrexia that I would like include somewhere but not sure where.
