- This Commander deck is based around its general Nekusar, the Mindrazer and sticks to abusing his passive abilities as much as possible. This is not an 'original' deck by any means, but I built this the day the general was spoiled and did all the research myself, and you can't take that away from me, lol. The deck is more of a synergy/combo variant than a competitive/control type.
- The deck is built for any size of multiplayer game but excels best in 4+ player match ups where you can hide behind other players or bigger threats and create political advantage by giving cards to your enemies. This deck should never be played 1v1 since it has a very high mana curve and is tuned solely for multiplayer.
- The play style is that of polictics, while you are constantly being friendly and giving people extra cards you are also doling out a significant amount of damage to everyone over time. The deck also has many unexpected and leathal combos that are well known and your deck will get hated on almost immediately. Try to start the game slow without casting any big effects such as Teferi's Puzzle Box that will get you insta-gibed, cast your general and hopefully he lives until your next turn when you can then go banana's with forced draw / discard or whatever mean jank you have in hand.
- The deck has no removal and focuses solely on making people hate the extra cards they are getting. The deck has a few counterspells and equipment in it to help protect Nekusaur, but he isn't directly necessary to win the game. This deck is super fun, but you may get extremely hated on so good luck, Pilots.
- Currently on the hunt for stronger on theme cards or mandatory inclusions that I've missed.
Hey all, it's new set time and thought I'd give each deck a quick review and update their main lists.
- Khans hasn't brought us any new on-theme goodies for the deck, but it did bring us those awesome fetch lands which I had been proxy'ing in anticipation of their inevitable reprint. Even though there's really no new goodies, I did some considerable reading up and play testing on Nekusuar decks recently and its time for this deck to shed its shell of clunky and pet cards, and move up into the S-class of hatefulness.
- I've decided to officially go the more combo/synergy route and have made some changes away from control oriented cards to reflect that. Some new combo cards I hadn't seen before are in; as well as bit of fixing in the tapped land department.
In addition to visually updating the main list by card function, the following changes have also been made;
In: Waste Not : This is an all around support house and combo enabler, thank you MTG community. Jace's Archivist : Not a huge fan of this guy since he dies so easy, but opted for this over Incendiary Command due to mana cost conflict with nek at 5cmc but also for combo potential with MoM. Mind Over Matter : Combo's many ways and makes great use of an additional resource. I don't run any recursion though so I'll usually be playing this card to combo out rather than to grind down. Otherworld Atlas : Neglected it before when I first created the deck, I regret that decision now. it combo's out with MoM and is strong on its own particularly when the game is going slow or at a stale board position. Dream Halls : More combo'y goodness, also can't wait to see how my opponents will interact with it each game, fun times all around. Geth's Grimoire : Still on the fence about this one, but there are other good cards going in that synergize with this so It should work out well. Words of Waste : Cards are bad coming AND going...mmkay. Notion Thief : Little bit scared to use this guy since it can force me a quick loss if not played correctly, his lockout power is undeniably strong and synergizes well with many other cards in the deck. Hive Mind : Pewpew happy fun times in casual. Also ends the game really quick in your favour when paired with wheels and Nek. Darksteel Plate : Opted to go this route to protect Nekusuar since I rarely want to leave mana open for spell effects that might do the protection instead. Shield of Kaldra : Same as above, the casting cost is fairly subpar, but still off cycle with Nekusaurs 5cmc which is good enough for now. Curiosity : I try to avoid personal draw effects in this deck since you always have new cards to work with anyway, but this one is too hard to pass up; combo'ing out with Niv-mizzet and synergizing well with many other cards in the deck. Thran Dynamo : Good acceleration, I would prefer gilded lotus but it conflicts with Nekusuar at 5cmc. This combo's well enough with Mind over matter all the same. Island I might regret the change down to 34 lands and if so, I'll likely have to cut one of the mana rocks or another static draw to bring it back up. Mountain : Will be nice to have a few extra non-CiPT lands as well.
Out: Wound Reflection : Slow and clunky, was fun though, but definitely a win more card at best. Price of Knowledge : Has a big effect and sorry to see the max hand size go but this card is just too slow. Venser's Journal : Again not happy to see the max hand size go but I'll live with it, this card is pretty clunky too. Temporal Cascade : Not blowout enough for its high cmc. Countersquall : Darksteel Plate will protect nekusaur better, I hope. Mana Leak : Same as above for shield of kaldra Nightscape Familiar : Mana rocks are where its at, time to go. Cruel Ultimatum : Pet cards are pretty awesome but we are here to do one thing, make people hate drawing cards. Thraximundar : Also an old pet card, sad to see him go. Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker - fat planeswalker is fat. Howling Mine : Lightening up on static draw, not really happy to lose the low cmc but I'm opting for more blowout style wins. Font of Mythos : Same as above. Lonely Sandbar Forgotten Cave : Will miss the cycler set but its time for them to go and make way for lands that don't CiPT. Barren Moor
