- This Commander deck is based around its general Krenko, Mob Boss and sticks to a tribal Goblin theme. The deck also focuses on using haste, untap, and other mechanics to populate many, many, goblins. These goblins then have multiple ways to end the game for opponents quickly either with insane amounts of combat damage or through any number of the cheesy combos found in the deck.
- The deck is built for any size of multiplayer game but excels best in 3 and 4 player match ups where board wipes aren't being cast every other turn. This deck could potentially hold its own in 1v1 with some tuning, but it relies too heavily on its general to be any sort of viable.
- The play style is that of Moar goblins! Cast whatever you can upfront and then go straight for Krenko. If he dies just keep re casting him, there isnt really much else you can do :frown:; but once you have amassed an army there are multiple fun ways to end the game. A lot of the time people will underestimate the general/the deck and politically shift focus away from you, particularly if Krenko has already been killed a few times. Many games that this deck wins come out of no where and surprise the whole table including the pilot, The multiple forms of haste granting, the synergy between cards, and the relatively low casting cost of most combo pieces makes Krenko decks extremely dangerous even from a presumably empty board position.
- The deck has very little removal but an extremely high amount of synergy and blowout potential that allows it to keep rolling and punching people in the face. I can't really accurately describe how fun and awesome this deck is to play!
Hellrider is a good card for token aggro especially against other token decks when you've both hit a critical mass of tokens.
Blood Moon and/or Magus of the Moon are great in any mono red deck. You might nerf your utility lands but you'll most likely be hurting the other players more and it has nice synergy with Goblin King (and also a Koth emblem). Also speaking of utility lands Cavern of Souls is nice to have against control decks.
And also any damage doubler like Gratuitous Violence (which is one-sided), Dictate of the Twin Gods or Furnace of Rath are good just because they make the damage you deal even more crazy.
and lastly Gamble is nice for when you're trying to pull out some kind of combo finish, though of course its obviously not the most reliable tutor
I have a very much hated Goblin EDH deck using Krenko as the general. And i have a few things that you might want to consider. Hellrider is a must. Chancellor of the Forge is also a huge bomb. Voracious Dragon is another bomb.
Blood moon is a must you are running mono-red it will do nothing but help you, as stated above.
As for artifacts, I run Hall of Triumph and the new one from M15 that has convoke, can't remember name sorry. Also Illusionist's Bracers is also really good.
you should also look at the different "boggarts" Boggart Shenanigans works very well with goblin bombardment
You also have too many lands that come into play tapped. Goblins is fast you need lands that you can use right away. And yes, cavern of souls is very good. I need one. i will try and post my list in the next day or so. Then you can compare.
I definitely like the Hellrider, and not sure how I missed the shenanigans!
I'm not sure if there is room for furnace of rath type effects - they always feel like they are a win more cards to me.
The blood moon effects I chose to leave out, partly casue I'm a nice guy like that but also I value my current friends They would of course be an auto include for any 1v1 matches.
I also really like the cavern of souls and illusionist's bracers - I picked these up for a different deck a little while back and will have to go hunting for them again
I'll make sure to update the deck lists and add a change log as I pick up the noted cards.
Hey all, its new set time and thought I would do a quick review of each deck and update the main lists.
Khans gave us a new Mono-Red planeswalker, Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker that doesn't compete for spot as worst planeswalker ever like Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded did; Nissa Revane ended up winning though. However I feel that Sarkhan is not really on flavour for goblins and is not really that great for EDH overall; factors combined I'll have to pass on him. Other than that, no new goodies here from Khans.
Thanks again for feed back, and sorry for the slow reply. After a bit of testing I didn't end up liking Hellrider, it ended up being a bit sluggish and frequently just caused a wipe (which isn't terrible if played right :)). I found myself casting Roar of the Crowd effects with much greater effectiveness. That said, if he held the tribal Goblin subtype he would be an auto include.
Updates made to the main list;
Out:
-Goblin Rally While its great to help fuel krenko, this card is fairly subpar to the other strong combo options we have available.
-Smokestack Sad to see this one go, but it just feels out of place; it plays out more grindy rather than being punchy, which is where we want to go.
-Mountain -Too busy updating to fully evaluate the lands at this time, mountain is out until lands can get a full review later.
In:
+Boggart Shenanigans Boom, Boom, Boom!!
+Illusionist's bracers Combos are good, mmkay.
+Cavern of Souls not a super necessary change, particularly in my meta, but in an ideal world it is indeed a mandatory tribal card.
