I recently was looking for another tribal commander when I stumbled across this guy. He's cute, ain't he?
But don't judge a book by its cover. He gives you a massive mana engine that allows you to power out a ridiculous number of creatures by ensuring that all of your druids have pseudo-haste, which allows you to ball up and draw a ridiculous amount of cards.
(One game, I stole all the lands on turn 3, I literally had all of them)
He pairs up nicely with his best friends:
For Those Interested:
You would like playing Seton if:
You like ballin with Elves
You like overflowing the board with creatures
You like stealing people's lands
You would not like Seton if:
You don't like overextending
You like a slow game
You hate mana denial
Deck History
I was re-listening to old Commandercast episodes and came across the Seton entourage (ep.66 I believe) and wanted to see if there were any more good cards printed since then.
Enter Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and Karametra's Acolyte.
I also re-discovered Ritual of Subdual and now think its one of the coolest cards on the planet.
Without much further ado, here is the man and his legion:
SOFT LOCK: Winter Orb/Ritual of Subdual/Storage Matrix- Because you can produce so much mana with your creatures, using your lands to pay for upkeep costs or not being able to untap them is no problem. However, these cards can cause major problems for your opponents.
*Note- Stealing someone's lands is probably the most fun thing you can do.
Card Choices
Here, I defend some of the less obvious cards and why I included them in the deck.
1) Mobilize/Vitalize- Consider these as mana booosts. They're in here to untap your elves so you can continue comboing off, and the untap the required 7 druids for stealing lands. Often you need that untap so you can begin to win the game through the Archdruid.
2) Nantuko Cultivator- Many times you flood out while comboing off. This lets you turn all of your lands into more cards and makes a beatstick that can tap for mana. Its a great card, and often underrated.
I might suggest Null Rod - shut off everyone else's mana rocks so that mana dorks are the only thing that function well under Ritual of Subdual and people don't have any escape when you steal all of their lands.

@bigbearlyke: I would consider Greater Good, but the majority of my creatures have 1 power, so I lose value by sacrificing them.
Colossus gains a lot of value be cause if Treefolk Harbinger.
To elaborate on why I cut Pod in particular: While spamming creatures, the only creatures I ever wanted to get was Regal Force, Craterhoof or Gilt Leaf. I rarely have any other CMCS other than one or two, so it was difficult to find something to Pod. In addition, for what I wanted to do, I'd rather have another cheap Druid or big draw spell. That's why it came out.
@Wingkon: Yeah, but with more power and back up plans. It's a lot of fun.
This looks really interesting and fun. I love looking at tribal commander decks. I do have a couple questions though since I'm not that knowledgeable about commander. Why Dryad Arbor? And so many forests and not other lands? And why no fetchlands? Is this budget? Seeing gaeas cradle makes me think no but lol what would you add if price wasn't a issue? Would love to see more tribal stuff!
I run mostly forests because you can't have many lands that don't tap for green, as this screws up the clock of the turn by one if you miss casting Seton.
Dryad Arbor is for GSZ for 1 and because he's a land that counts for Craterhoof, Regal Force, etc.
I should run fetchlands. I haven't really updated the manabase--> Which is happening right now.
If you want to see another tribal deck, check out my Wort goblins deck! It plays some similar cards to this list. Its goblins, but with Survival, Food Chain, Birthing Pod, Earthcraft, and other broken cards. Plus tutors. Something it has over its red counterpart Krenko; and the fact that if you want Krenko, just tutor for him.
Ah that makes sense, I didn't see Green Sun the first time. Land base looks way better now haha! Why no Birds of Paradise or Noble Hierarch? I know they aren't elves but they're still 1 mana dorks and hierarch is at least a druid and birds can add green. Also Elves of Deep Shadow is a 1 mana dork and a elf but adds black. And Avacyn's Pilgrim is a one mana dork that isnt an elf or druid and adds white but is the only other 1 mana dork left I didnt name that you arent playing lol.
Edit: Also for more lands, since it seems like the only card in the deck that cares about forests is Arbor Elf, and after doing a quick search, I found 3 lands you might want to consider. Horizon Canopy, Okina, Temple of the Grandfathers, and Pendlehaven all come in untapped, and still add G but do something else small. Horizon Canopy does shoot you for 1 to add g but it lets you draw a card so idk if thats worth it. The others have no real downside whatsoever over 2 more forests. Also why Deserted Temple? Just to combo with Gaea's Revenge?
Remember, cards like Noble Hierarch I am not allowed to run in a mono green deck. Pendle haven is fine, it should go in along with Okina. Deserted Temple is a land you can drop off of Krosan Wayfarer and untaps Nykthos and Gaea's Cradle. Thanks again for the advice!
I came for the bad puns but stayed for the interesting and terrifying deck idea.
Have you considered/found yourself needing to run defensive options like City of Solitude or Hall of Gemstone? Would that risk slowing down the elfball supremacy potential of the deck? Even if you wanted it I'm not sure what I'd suggest to remove, though. You seem to have a list that already is very honed in on what it wants to do.
While I realize that they're not the same deck, Soul of New Phyrexia has been working pretty fantastically for me in Sachi. However, I'm more in it for a longer game than you.
And that's all I've got, sorry. Shaman triable is a whole other world of different.
Thoughts on Thespian's Stage? I've enjoyed it in pretty much everything. Seems good with a Cradle. Or the other guy's Cradle. Or Nykthos. Or any utility land, yours or otherwise.
It makes a mana the turn you play it which means it's useful in the early game and when you inevitably get your mana it turns into whatever you need.
@dorino- My problem with Stage is if you draw it, you have to pay 2 mana and TAP it, thus rendering you unable to use the mana that turn. By which case you could play a forest and then untap cradle on your next turn.
When I was gold fishing the deck, I quickly realized this was a card I would be unable to support.
EDIT:
@Arithnie- Haha, yeah this is a world in which that 6 drop better draw you a boatload of cards, or else you will run out of gas.
@shenabagananins- I haven't needed to run many defensive cards, as this deck aims to take people out before they have their resources set up.
But Hall of Gemstones is a real card, and I need to take a good look at whether or not I should be playing with or instead of Ritual of Subdual the advantage to the Gemstones being the CMC, and the advantage to the Ritual being its harder to break from. The problem is that most people will choose whatever color their removal/wraths are in and then cast those.
But when else would I use it if not immediately? The only way it could be good is if I copy cradle in response to Strip Mine, which is a result of bad play since you only want to drop cradel/Nykthos the turn you combo off, so there Strip Mine is irrelevant. It's just too narrow.
I can see what you're saying. You're not running many utility lands and you're only using your broken lands for comboing, so I definitely see where you're coming from. I guess it depends too on what the rest of the players in your group are running. It's an interesting land.
This deck is the nuts. Anyone who has loved or loved little green men should build this deck.
It has it all.
It's the untapping, the immediate tapping, the land stealing, the hoofing and trampling, and the draw power that green gives. This deck is all of that and more.
However, this deck can be very good, enough so that it might start to get hate. My own playgroup nearly banned it after one game after I had the table's lands on turn 4 and then killed them all with Craterhoof the next.
