So, basically I want at least one deck of each mono color in my EDH arsenal. Jalira, Master Polymorphist seems like a fun mono blue general that can lead to some silly things.
While I'm sure that the best (i.e. most competitive) way of building Jalira is having Blightsteel Colossus as the only creature and playing a control deck until you can cheat it out with Jalira, I went for the more fun (IMO) approach of running a bunch of sweet, big creatures to Polymorph into, in addition to Blightsteel. I like the random factor, and they're all pretty sweet creatures to cheat out.
The deck runs token makers, manlands, and some creature stealing effects to provide things to sacrifice to Jalira or use with things like Proteus Staff, Polymorph, and Mass Polymorph.
I like the mixture of polymorph fodder because you don't have to depend on your opponents having creatures as much. Still, plays like using Bribery to steal someone's Rune-Scarred Demon to tutor Polymorph to use on the stolen demon are sweet.
As far as creatures to cheat out go, I chose creatures that either provide card advantage, removal, or are hard to kill. Darksteel Colossus, admittedly, is probably not even that good but I have a soft spot for that card.
Because Jalira doesn't put out legends, I'm running some cheaper legends as my early drops, like Kira, Thada Adel, and Talrand. Talrand is good because he makes tokens to sacrifice.
Other cards include things that scry or put cards back, like Dream Cache, allowing you to set up what creatures you want to cheat out or to put back any you may draw.
The rest is your typical set of blue staples and mana rocks.
Wow, this is a powerful, sinister deck that should be random enough to not be public enemy #1. Nicely done :). Just a few minor notes, really:
- Consider Myr Turbine over one of your current token-makers? It costs more than, say, Throne, but it costs 0 to activate and has some occasionally relevant additional text.
- Guardian Idol is a mana rock when you need it to be, and Polymorph fodder when you are ready. Seems legit.
- By that same token, Tezzeret the Seeker and Karn, Silver Golem can "animate" mana rocks or other things into Polymorph-able targets, which might prove useful.
