I won a tiny bit of money when dragged to a casino last week, so I made my first edh deck and sticking to around $200 for initial out of pocket.
ATM I am attempting to make a slightly different Trostani token combo, all I know is I want this piss everyone off. Completely inexperienced when it comes to EDH, I am clueless on the true value of cards in the format or what excels.
**EDIT 6/26** - First version is built and the next logical step is pretty much finalized. Still looking for any and all advice, insight, or suggestions on building this archtype in to something that would ruin everyone's day.
Most of the standard and conspiracy cards in the deck are all ready in my collection, along with a couple others (about $45 worth all together).
What it needs to do -
1. Play consistent
2. Make everything in to a token
3. Not shame me in public (casual LGS play)
4. Stay around $200 for initial investment
Current Problems -
1. Tuck/Counterspell heavy decks kick my dick in the dirt
2. If Erebos is ever played I am SCREWED
3. Slow to ramp (fixed in newest version)
Here is the next version of the deck that I am attempting to eventually trade in to. Value around $300 with no foil/alter and no cool lands. 650-700 with foil/alter and listed lands.
I have been in and out of playing magic since 98 but never went past the kitchen table setting until recently... And I have found that I kinda suck at this game, which is compounded by large gaps in card knowledge when it comes to EDH, so any and all advice on what to do to this deck to make it more viable or building around this arch-type would be amazing.
Hey guys so I've actually moved on from commander on to 60 card decks so I don't have any commander decks.
Anyway I've started my own gameplay channel in which I play games (Magic also)
Dudebro... Creeping Renaissance is blowing my mind how effective it is. Picked up a foil of it up on tuesday after your suggestion (it was rocking my socks the moment I saw your suggestion), played it in 6/9 matches so far and it is PHENOMENAL.
I wanted to use the enchantment holocaust combo, but I can not seem to find a spot for it in my newest version of the deck, which I am attempting to trade in to eventually.
My current version doesn't use storm herd due to a ramping problem and no Archangel of Thune, but that is solved in the deck's next logical evolution.
There aren't that many expensive enchantments that make Aura Mutation worthwhile; I'd rather see that card as Aura Shards.
All of those nonbasic lands... in certain metas, you are begging for some mass nonbasic land destruction. Being GW, you can ramp with impunity, so I suggest more basics. At the very least, reconsider most of the lands that enter play tapped. That said, Gaea's Cradle loves token decks.
Well of Lost Dreams is always better on paper than in practice, at least for me. Crystal Ball, however, always carries its weight. If you'd like, consider Sensei's Divining Top and Scroll Rack, as well.
Fertilid would love all the counters you are handing out, as would anyone you help out with it, politically speaking.
Some awesome suggestions there. Many were cards that I had considered but had no real insight on. Thank you <3
My deck has also been doing the same thing over time, changing from tokens to life gain.
Played it 6 more rounds and am finding: too few 2-3 drops, cant find ramp 1/2 the time, Healing triggers > populate, and Phyrexian Processor is so beautiful.
After last night I will be definitely pulling out Growing Ranks, Aura Mutation, Death's Presence, Angelic Accord, and a few 6-8 drops.
I was getting INSANE value from Well of Lost Dreams, but I seriously felt lucky that I had so much mana to spare and no one destroyed it. I will be getting a Divining Top eventually, so in goes Crystal Ball as my placeholder.
Afraid of using the draw effects off of creatures/tokens. I had Collective Unconscious in at an early version and it was a dead card or just terribly inefficient for me 4/5 times.
Was planning on reworking the lands, good to know there actually are decks that stomp on non-basic lands. I have always wanted a Cradle, Savannah, and Wastelands... But I hate proxies unless testing a deck before buying, so that leaves obtaining damaged or heavy played ones and getting them altered. That will have to wait for the future.

TLDR: I love you all, plz halp for I am the dumb.
Akroma's Memorial is insane with cards like Serra avatar
kessig cagebreakers makes lots of tokens, as does rhys the redeemed
creeping renaissance is one of my favorite edh cards
Eternal witness should be in this, as well as Rampaging baloths
Aura shards and Quasali pridemage are always good
Anyway I've started my own gameplay channel in which I play games (Magic also)

I do not understand how I missed Eternal Witness or Akroma's Memorial, they had to go in...

Tossing up updated version and next step soon.

Growing Ranks isn't worth it, unless you have lots of monstrous tokens... like those from Wurmcalling, Crush of Wurms, and Garruk, Primal Hunter's ultimate.
Saproling Symbiosis might be considered.
Hour of Reckoning and Glare of Subdual provide uses for your tokens. Collective Unconscious and, to a lesser extent, Regal Force, can let you refill your hand, and then some.
My Trostani deck started with tokens, then shifted to gaining life with a token subtheme. It worked much better after the shift.
Cheers!
