Vish Kal does it all - removal, evasion, lifegain, sac outlet, and massive attacks. He can combo pretty easily to deliver 21 general damage. But most importantly, he reminds players that life really does matter as they watch him bleed them dry. This deck looks to use several of his abilities but largely focuses on life totals.
Are you really running only 27 lands? I would encourage you to increase that to at least 37 so that you get an opportunity to cast Vish Kal most games.
I forgot to mention that there is a small vampire subtheme, although it is mostly life-related vamps. If you see any I missed but would be good, let me know.
The list seems... Lopsided, I guess is the word I want. Some good stuff, then... Not so much.
I agree that it is a little lopsided - this was the first build with stuff that I had on hand that fit thematically. I was also trying to decide which of his abilities I wanted to exploit. After running it in several games, I have decided that the pure life cards (Exsanguinate, Debt to the Deathless, etc.) aren't my play style. I'm looking for suggestions for combo cards and/or creatures that go well in this deck but are more interactive.
As for Pillory of the Sleepless,One Thousand Lashes, etc., I usually don't even run spot removal much, but I thought I'd give them a try because they were on theme. I haven't even pulled them yet to give it a try. I'd gladly replace them if I had something better. Suggestions?

Also, the Extort isn't worth it, your total CMCs are too high to bother with the small drains. Crypt Ghast fine, but Kingpin's Pet... Not so much.
Pillory of the Sleepless/One Thousand Lashes are just too small. And too many decks have sac outlets to get rid of them to have the drain be worthwhile.
