Hello guys, this is my first deck I'm posting online! I've been working on it for the past few months, and I'm having a great time playing it, though my opponents aren't.
I've been working on this deck for quite a few months now. It originally began with Vorel of the Hull Clade as my commander, but then I realized pretty early on how ridiculous my board exploded when I got Momir Vig, Simic Visionary out. I decided to have the two swap places.
This deck can win in many ways. It is mostly defensive/control based, but you can go on an offensive frenzy quickly if you so choose.
Kiora's Follower looks underwhelming at first, but it's actually amazing. First of all, it's a G/U for only 2 mana, so you can tutor a creature with Momir Vig, Simic Visionary for just 2. Secondly, its ability is phenomenal in this deck. You can use it to untap Gyre Sage, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Vorel of the Hull Clade, or Cytoplast Maniplator. Getting another use of Vorel per turn is a ridiculous advantage. I have been considering adding more cards with tap/untap abilities.
-------
So when I play this deck, I try to lock down my board and protect it from being killed. The first things I tutor through Momir Vig, Simic Visionary is usually Prophet of Kruphix. Getting him early puts a nail in everyone's coffin. When I play him, I usually tutor up Master Biomancer. From him, I grab Glen Elendra Archmage. Then I see what I have in my hand and play from there.
The beautiful thing with the Momir Vig, Simic Visionary and Prophet of Kruphix combo is that I can tutor up anything I need the instant I need it, simply by playing a creature spell.
-------
So these are my thoughts and explanations on my Simic EDH deck. Let me know if you have any suggestions, I am open to any ideas.
Being a new member, I am not able to post links yet, but I did post this on tappedout. Just search "Momir Vig crankyturtle" on google. Thanks!
That list is incredibly cool, I'm going to steal it and play it. Thanks for sharing.
Here are some card candidates I came across while assembling your list. Some seem like auto-includes to me, some might be a tad too specific to my meta, and some probably fall in the category of being good, but not doing enough to warrant a spot. I'll share them all and let you decide for youself.
Voidslime should probably replace Counterspell. It looks like the extra mana would be worth the versatility, there are so many generals with powerful abilities.
Rogue's Passage is an effortless and reliable way to let us get that 32/32 creature past chump blockers in case we haven't got any trample.
Alchemist's Refuge, an effortless source for flashing in creatures and playing Genesis Wave at instant speed.
Stroke of Genius to deck someone else with our insane/infinite mana, deck ourselves at instant speed to win with Laboratory Maniac, or just draw a handful of cards at opponent's EOT.
Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir is yet another source for flashing in creatures, blocks out nasty surprises during out combat phase and completely shuts down Jhoira of the Ghitu.
Woodfall Primus could replace Acidic Slime because we can keep triggering it not just by flickering, but also by placing counters on it after it dies the first time.
Gaea's Blessing is another way to tuck dead creatures into our library so that we can fetch them with Momir again. It also cantrips and stops milling.
Sylvan Scrying to fetch up whichever land we need at the time. It doesn't actually ramp, but the mana boost we can get from Nykthos might make up for it.
Winged Coatl is pseudo-removal that triggers Momir Vig.
Snakeform is effectively a kill spell that cantrips.
Curse of the Swine is another off-theme card, but with our mana access it looks like a great way to neuter opponents before attacking. I'm probably letting the fun factor cloud my judgement, but I'm definitely playing it, even if only to spread a stack of pig tokens on the table just once.
Simic Charm does a lot of things. It's no bomb, but its versatility might make up for that.
Wood Sage lets us draw whatever we put on top of our library after playing a green-but-not-blue creature with Momir out. Probably too cute and flimsy.
Wistful Selkie is a second Coiling Oracle in case that's something we could need. Good for Nykthos devotion, inferior in any other way.
Shielding Plax doesn't jump onto our creature instantly like Lightning Greaves does, but it lets us put counters on whatever we enchant, it cantrips and it's tutorable with Drift of Phantasms.

Thanks for the ideas! I totally forgot about Voidslime!
I'm glad you looked at my tappedout, as I'm too lazy to update my decklist on this site. I definitely like a lot of the cards you mentioned, but I have such a hard time removing things :P. One card I decided to add is Defense of the Heart. It's totally crazy to drop Prophet of Kruphix and Vorinclex/anything else with it. Gilded Drake is on my shopping list to replace Cytoplast, who has sadly been underperforming.
If you're not as picky about you mana, Blue Sun's Zenith could be better than Stroke of Genius as well. It has been on my mind for a bit, but I just can't find anything to take out.
Let me know how your deck plays! The main problem with mine it seems is people killing my commander.
The problem with Blue Sun's Zenith is that you can't deck yourself with it + flash out Laboratory Maniac at the end of your right hand opponent's turn and win because you're going to draw Zenith again. It's an incredibly risky move anyway, of course, you should at least have a counterspell ready too, but you probably will if you run a few since you've just drawn your library.
I suspected that protecting Momir should be this deck's achilles heel even before playing it, we should probably spend a few slots on that. Not sure what, maybe some totem armors, more counterspells or return to hand effects... another idea might be to increase tutor redundancy so that we still get to do our thing to some extent when he's not out, like Defense of the Heart, Green Sun's Zenith, Birthing Pod and Chord of Calling.
I find it very tempting to cut as many artifacts as possible and run Creeping Corrosion, since there are so many mana rocks in EDH and we can make do with stuff like Farseek instead. The occasional blowout might not be worth cutting the best non-mana artifacts though.
I've built my Momir deck to be incredibly creature based. I've found Bane of Progress to be pretty insane in a deck with so few artifacts and enchantments. It also goes well with your Vorel counter doubling.
In my years of playing many different Momir decks I've come to this conclusion: no matter what you do the deck will be weak to spot and mass creature removal. If you start to hedge against mass removal with things like counters and Darksteel Plate you will become weaker to spot removal. If you try to meta against spot removal with Greaves and Asceticism you loose to wraths more. If you attempt to beat both types of removal your deck becomes creature light and you cant always trigger Momir.
I like mana-dork Momir the best because its so damn explosive. Its weaker to wraths but at least you can counter those easier as spot removal spells are normally much cheaper to cast. I'm sure I will come back to Momir one day. Its one of my favorite decks. But there is no real way to build a deck based on him that isn't weak to removal heavy decks. Unless you're willing to make the build more UG goodstuff. Id rather run Prime Speaker for that personally.

This deck can win in many ways. It is mostly defensive/control based, but you can go on an offensive frenzy quickly if you so choose.
-------
**Here's a couple ways to win:**
Using Vorel of the Hull Clade to empty your die bag on creatures like like Primordial Hydra or just anything in conjuction with Nylea, God of the Hunt for trample.
Biovisionary + Rite of Replication.
Making any creature big and milling yourself with Prime Speaker Zegana + Laboratory Maniac. Deadeye Navigator makes this work well.
Beefing up Triskelion with Vorel of the Hull Clade, then simply burning everyone in the game.
Wiping the board with Rishadan Footpad + Deadeye Navigator.
Genesis Wave your entire deck with its insane mana or infinite mana. Oh, and you can set yourself up to win through Laboratory Maniac this way as well.
And waaaaay more.
-------
**Some quick card explanation and combos**
Deadeye Navigator allows us to abuse enter the battlefield mechanics thoroughly. I like to make copies of him with Progenitor Mimic to make things even grosser. Here are some combos:
Deadeye Navigator + Haze Frog (Prevent anyone from attacking you)
Deadeye Navigator + Acidic Slime (burn artifacts, enchantments, or lands)
Deadeye Navigator + creatures you steal with Cytoplast Manipulator (keep their creatures even if Cytoplast Manipulator dies)
Deadeye Navigator + Peregrine Drake (infinite mana)
Deadeye Navigator + Eternal Witness (return cards to your hard from your graveyard)
Deadeye Navigator + Progenitor Mimic (change who it makes copies of)
Deadeye Navigator + Mystic Snake (counter spells for 1U)
Deadeye Navigator + Venser, Shaper Savant (spell counter that gets past abilities which can't be countered)
Deadeye Navigator + Riftsweeper (bring stuff back from exile, ruin suspend decks)
Deadeye Navigator + Diluvian Primordial (lolololol do I even have to say?)
Deadeye Navigator + Phyrexian Ingester (creature removal)
Deadeye Navigator + Rishadan Footpad (wipe everyone else's board)
Deadeye Navigator + Nylea's Disciple (crazy life gain)
Your bread and butter control combo: Master Biomancer + Glen Elendra Archmage. This will stop a TON of nasty things from hitting the field. This will lock down your board from most kill spells and board wipes. If you really want to be a jerk, you can use Deadeye Navigator + Venser, Shaper Savant/Mystic Snake for other spells.
Plaxcaster Frogling, Asceticism, and Veilstone Amulet are there for another juicy layer of protection.
Drift of Phantasms is there only for the transmute to pull up cards I may need for certain situations, like Veilstone Amulet if the game is too kill spell heavy, Bow of Nylea if I either need ways to put counters on things or Eternal Witness is dead and I need it back, Rhystic Study for fun, or Genesis Wave to win.
-------
**Some fun tricks:**
Stealing creatures: I have Cytoplast Manipulator right now. I plan to eventually swap him out for a Gilded Drake, but it's a little out of my budget at the moment.
Life gain: You can gain infinite life by having the infinite mana combo with Peregrine Drake and Deadeye Navigator if you have Nylea's Disciple out.
Kiora's Follower looks underwhelming at first, but it's actually amazing. First of all, it's a G/U for only 2 mana, so you can tutor a creature with Momir Vig, Simic Visionary for just 2. Gather Specimens is off-theme, but it's a bomb against Jhoira of the Ghitu, reanimator decks and opposing Genesis Waves.

You seem to have given up on your Momir elf deck because it was too sensitive to removal. Do you think this looks more resilient?
