Introduction
Hello folks, and welcome to my Damia, Sage of Stone list. My name's Genuphobia, I've been playing Magic on and off since I was a wee boy (right around Apocalypse). I played very casually for many years until just after the release of Darksteel in 2004 when I decided it was time to move on to bigger and better things (that clearly worked out!). I started playing again when a friend of mine got me back into it around the release of New Phyrexia in 2011, where I began playing standard competitively. This lasted for a mere 9 months before basically my entire collection dropped out of standard and I decided it was time to figure something else out. It was at that time that a friend of mine introduced me to this wonderful thing called EDH which I've been playing almost exclusively (I dabble in and out of Legacy) ever since.
I've played so many different archetypes, color combinations, and Generals over the years but I finally came to the realization that my favorite archetype is by far control, and my favorite color combination is by far B/G or Golgari. One of my first Generals I ever picked was Savra, Queen of the Golgari, the deck was designed to keep creatures off of the board while simultaneously draining people slowly with Blood Artist. I didn't realize how evil and obnoxious to play against that was at the time, but looking back I feel super bad for my friends. Since then I've decided to play a little nicer at least, I have a handful of cards I believe to be just no fun for anyone and won't play; the most egregious offender being Consecrated Sphinx.
The deck list you're about to look at has been tuned over the last year or so to become a late game monster that is unbelievable hard to deal with. When done right this deck can completely deny your opponents of anything, can take turns on everyone else's turns, and win the game with big, splashy, mean plays. I would absolutely consider this deck to be competitive, though if you're looking for a more casual list I will provide a few changes you can make to bring the power level down significantly.
Should I play Damia?
Damia likes to keep your hand stocked full of answers, she's basically a control deck's wet dream. Most people playing Damia I see use one of three very clear strategies. Play ALL of the things: This build basically tries to empty it's hand every single turn, over-committing to the board because, well, it can. If one were building something like this you'd like to take advantage of a very low mana curve, dumping several things per turn is key. I don't like over extending into wraths like this though.
Counter ALL of the things: This deck tries to 1 for 1 it's way to victory though a slew of counter spells. Important note is that I've never seen this work well in a multiplayer environment.
Battlecruiser: This is where it's at in my opinion, this build sacrifices a particularly strong early game for a nearly indomitable late game. If your opponents ignore you (which they usually do cause you're not doing anything) they will have a monster on their hands later. This will be the kind of build I'll be showing you.
The Competition
Vorosh, the Hunter: This guy could make a decent voltron general maybe? Definately the weakest choice in these colors.
The Mimeoplasm: This thing is a monster, and has a tendency to enter as a hasty big infecty dragon. This is probably the choice if you want to play a more combo oriented general in these colors.
That's it. I know right? We definitely need more BUG generals.
