In an effort to improve my brewing/deck building skills, I am attempting to start from scratch with a "Bottom Up" build instead of building based on what general I chose. There's a card I love that I've attempted to put into many UGX decks, but it hasn't quite worked out for me. However with a bit of research and planning, I think I've finally found a deck that's best suited for it.
Cards that give you free stuff just for playing the game are great, but the art, flavor text, and colors of this card are what put it over the top for me. The best way, in my opinion, to utilize this card to it's full effect is to play spells that are both Blue and Green. Momir Vig, Simic Visionary is nuts when you cast a creature spell that's both Green and Blue, so I'm choosing him as my general.
There are a couple of restrictions I have placed on the deck in an effort to make it more challenging and fun to play, and more fun to play against. One of the restrictions is to not have an overabundance of ramp. Simic is known for it's "Go Big or Go Home" playstyle, drawing an abundance of cards and having a magnificent board presence at a moments notice. Personally I feel that ramp is overrepresented in EDH due to the popular opinion of "don't touch my lands", and I wanted to see if I could play simic without devolving into the same old ramp into fatty strategy. The second restriction is to not have any infinite combos in the deck. Momir Vig is widely known as a combo enabler for Elfball and what have you and as a toolbox general. I'll be using him more or less as a Toolbox commander that grabs creatures that are both green and blue to get more triggers out of Fable of Wolf and Owl.
Having a plethora of green and blue spells in the deck was one way I had thought about building the deck. I wondered if I could somehow manipulate Fable of Wolf and Owl itself to make it even better if I couldn't cast both a green and blue spell. Color changing spells like Trait Doctoring can change all of the word Green in that spell to Blue, and vice versa, which allows both abilities to trigger off of a mono colored spell if necessary. This can also be used on Momir Vig to great effect, so I decided to take the deck in this direction.
Below the first draft of what I have come up with, without lands.
I would like to make room for 37 lands in the deck, so right now there are 101 cards in the deck. What the deck is mising now is basic stuff like ramp which I wanted to cut back on but not completely forget and a plethora of answers. Some are more creative like Blind Seer into Hydroblast, but I assume things like Beast Within and Deglamer would be worthy includes. There are also no board wipes or resets in the deck. I could use Oblivion Stone or other colorless wipes as an option, or things like Cyclonic Rift or the more flavorful Inundate.
What I would like from you, the always helpful MTGS community, is help in cutting down the deck to the normal 100 cards, swapping out less effective cards for more normal ones like staples or creature based ramp, possibly lowering the curve of the deck as it is rather high at first glance, and finding other cards that may be helpful to this strategy.
