One day, Ruric decide to have party! But Ruric not sure who to invite to Rurics party. So him call new best friend Xenagos and say, "RURIC WANT SMASH EVERYTHING!" Then Xanagos laugh and we get drunk and bring ALL Rurics friends! No silly magics, just friends who like party!
So, basically this deck is pure creatures and lands. No hidden tricks, no sneaky magic, just creatures. That's not to say that there are not some strong combos within the deck. Horned Kavu or Sparkcaster + any ETB trigger is great stuff, as is Deepwood Treefolk + Eternal Witness. Pair either of those with the Forge God, and suddenly your opponents are going to take lots of damage very quickly. Lands also do a lot of heavy lifting here, especially winding canyons which gives all your spells flash. My favorite is flashing in a Stalking Vengeance in response to a board-wipe, as my once smug opponent is now taking a hefty blow to the face to blow up my dudes. The combo of Canyons, Seedborn Muse and Garruk's Horde is also a fast track to wining.
If you can keep Ruric around, he really hoses on control and combo decks. Of course he also will be their #1 target if they are smart, but if they're busy dealing with Ruric, you can often build up a very strong board position anyway.
If you know of any of Ruric's friends who should join the party, let me know! There's always room for more good times (except for Elvish House Party. Those posers just mooch)
Just going to mention a few fun critters from my friend's 99% all-permanent Thar deck.
Bloodshot Cyclops - Fling on a body, especially with the next creature. Hamletback Goliath - He's a fun big dude that gets insane. With the Cyclops, he can become a way to kill someone out of nowhere. Giant Trap-Door Spider and Hunting Kavu are amusing pieces of removal. Dragon Broodmother and Dragonlair Spider help create a small...or not very small army to act as bouncers. Deus of Calamity can be quite the rude guest if he gets out of hand, but sometimes, the angry drunks can be fun. Chameleon Colossus is rarely an unwelcome Beast Cyclops God thing.
