Why Skullbriar This is my fifth EDH deck: the first Krenko and second Edric, Third Mimeoplasm, Fourth Karametra. This deck is super fun. I have been playing more 1v1 style games in EDH lately. So in turn I wanted to make a deck that would be a aggression power-house. Briar's CMC of 2 is absolutely the best. Paired with haste, he is a big force to be reckoned with early on. I like playing him because usually you take on the offensive role immediately. It is basically suit him up with evasion and equipment, spot removal, and hand disruption to get a win.
Major Downsides are tuck away effects and bounce spells, BUT a handy Momentous Fall or Devour Flesh can help. Avoid Fate is a big one that really helps the defensive line.

Why Skullbriar

Overall Strategy
Skullbriar turn one with a Lotus Petal straight into cards like Whispersilk Cloak, Rogue's Passage, and Canopy Cover will ensure successful beatsticking. He will keep getting his counters and getting in for damage. Ring of Kalonia and Ring of Xathrid help a tremendous amount by making our counters exponential. When Kalonian Hydra & Corpsejack Menace hit the board opponents usually have to have an answer right away because 21 commander damage becomes an easily attainable goal. Dismember, Duress, Krosan Grip, Diabolic Edict, Unmask and Snuff Out solidify a good defense against any opponents attempts to foil our Beat Stick plans.
