This deck is meant for a casual 1v1 play
I'm trying to build something that people wouldn't expect from the color combination and/or general I'm using so
I've decided to put up this deck here for more feedback. Take note that this build around the normal EDH ban list instead of the French 1v1 ban list.
You might like this idea if you:
[1]like generating storm count without going infinite to win
[2]like calculating and keeping track of your floating mana/storm counts/creatures etc
[3]like little interaction with your opponent
You might not like it if you:
[1]enjoy interactivity with your opponent
[2]do not like spell slinging to win
[3]do not like to overload yourself with calculation
As you can see this deck runs 0 protection, disrupt or any spot removal spells and can be interrupted pretty easy from your opponent's removal/counter spell, play testing to see what I can cut to add in cards like Duress and Mind Twist or some form of protection
How this deck generally work
Since there isn't a fixed play to get the engine started however there's a few important cards to enable the engine. It needs to be able to keep itself rolling first by having some form of setup on your battlefield.
First: Sustainable Mana
Mainly Phyrexian Altar, Ashnod's Altar, Mana Echoes where the token generating cards helps with these
Tokens that are generated are usually black or red tokens to work with Lyzolda with the exception of eldrazi spawns token since they are able to sacrifice themselves and provide mana. Other cards to take note: Skirge Familiar, Skirk Prospector.
Second: Sustainable Draw
Mainly 2 cards Dark Prophecy and Skullclamp of course there's other spells like Greed and Lyzolda herself to help
Playing testing experience
Depending on your hand you do not need to fulfill both requirements to start the ball rolling however having Mana in most cases is more important if you have Lyzolda in play which you can access at anytime. There are also times where the damage from Lyzolda alone is enough to down a 40 life game without going Grapeshot or Tendrils. It is mostly safe to end that turn if you feel like you couldn't keep the engine going and try on the next turn (if your board state survived till your next turn)
This is not very viable to play in multiplayer (usually 4 players) as this deck can be easily interrupted by a timely removal or counter spell, even if somehow all my opponents are tapped out or/and do not have an answer in their hand it is unlikely I can generate enough storm to kill off 3 or more players, I may get a kill but most probably not a win. It is best that this is played on 1v1 usually going off at 7th-10th turn
Before I start blabbing... how competitive do you want your deck to be?
When I see Tendrils of Agony, I immediately think all the discards and other enablers like Ad Nauseam, Lotus Petal, Mox Diamond,Skirge Familiar and etc to make those storm cards work (and highly effective strategy in Duel Commander). Too bad that Griselbrand is banned as a card but not as a general.
If you want to be really competitive with storm, there's always Oloro Ad Naus, which you can find here.
It's a tier one deck, and destroys all non-blue-non-black matchups, and basically all non-combo matchups with blue and black but that aren't heavy on disruption. Can win on turn 2 occasionally and on turn 4 with startling consistency, and also incidentally creates a ton of dead cards (removals) with opponents.
Of course, it depends a lot on your metagame - is it hyper competitive? Is it more casual? It would suck to bring storm combo against most casual decks, but a 7th-10th turn kill is probably too slow for competitive combo with the mtgcommander banlist.
No I didn't meant for this to be a competitive deck is more to a causal level where I can still pull off storm. Also maybe for that bit of surprise element because people probably wouldn't expect storm in a lyzolda deck. I should have made it clear in my header though hearing storm probably lead to thinking competitive play.
