The thing that first struck me when I saw Scion of the Ur-Dragon was its flexibility. It can tutor for any dragon in the history of magic, BE it for a turn, and put it into your grave where it can be easily recurred. It is WUBRG, which gives it access to EVERY card EVER. After some thinking, I realised that one really only needs 8 cards specific to it to be able to quickly and easily kill 1 or 2 players. What's more, 2 of them are lands! That might seem crazy, but it's the truth. Let me explain:
Moltensteel Dragon is an obvious choice because you can kill someone 1-hit by paying 34 life. Even better, you can pay , make Scion Skithiryx, on the stack pay , make him Moltensteel, let it resolve, when it becomes Moltensteel, pay 12 life to give it +6/+0, then he become Skithiryx, and you swing for 10 poison. Hellkite Overlord is a big haste beater. Play Scion, Make him the Overlord, attack. Next turn make him Dragon Tyrant, boost him as much as you need, and swing for the win. Mana-Charged Dragon lets people help me out with killing someone, plus I can pour whatever mana I have into it. Nicol Bolas lets me discard someone's hand and deal 7 damage. Plus he's the greatest dragon in the history of great dragons. (just look at my username) The two lands are good, un-counter-able, boosters that can get that last bit of damage in. It may not be the most resilient of wincons, but if you can outlast a few players, you should be able to kill the survivors.
So what does this mean? I can play whatever deck/strategy I want and have a sure way of killing off a couple of players when I need? Not exactly. You still need a strategy somewhat synergistic with Scion. What might that be? I have an idea. The single GREATEST idea in the history of EDH! Okay, not quite. But I'm very much intrigued by it's possibilities. Here it is:
INSTANTS!!!
Okay, so what? Yeah, instants are cool, but can you really build a deck around them? You need creatures, artifacts, sorceries, enchantments... right? WRONG!
Instant can provide almost all you need to function and survive/thrive in a multiplayer environment. Granted, some things go very well with instants, but won't change that it is an instant deck. And it has the potential to be VERY GOOD. Here's how.
Prevent damage: These are some of the most underrated and underused card functions in magic. They effectively eliminate the need for blockers.
One could really build a deck that is nothing but counters, removal, life gain and prevent damage, and they will be able to outlast most players and kill off the remaining with Scion, but that's not very interesting. While the deck should have counters and life gain, their are so many absurd instants in magic that it would be blasphemy not to include them.
Here's a few:
These are pretty much misc, but they all do some pretty cool effect, especially in multiplayer.
I also thought that having a bunch of charms would be pretty good: &type=+[%22Instant%22]](Gatherer Search: Name:"Charm"+Type:"Instant") They would help to keep your hand full of options.
There are also some cards that go very well with instants:
But what would the strategy of such a crazy deck be? How would it play? The answer is simple: POLITICS. It would be pretty great being the guy who always answered "Yep" to when everybody asks "can somebody do something about that?" You would always try to maintain the balance of power, and ally yourself with the weakest player to kill the strongest player. (If your playgroup discourages "table talk" then maybe you should try to play this deck) It is very simple, yet very complicated to actually pull off. Suddenly it really matters how you act, not just how you play. But it is a viable strategy!
If you found the my idea , , , , , or , then please help me improve the strategy/card choices to develop a playable list!
If you found the my idea , , , , , or , then please let me know why I need to seriously reconsider my hobby choice. (or provide some constructive criticism)
I've built a prototype for the deck. It's nowhere near perfect, but It's getting somewhere. If people will comment, maybe it will turn out really good! I'm really sad at how little attention this thread has got. I'm also really sad at how few awesome instants I seem to be able to fit. At this point, they seem to be just too situational. If you do comment, then please let me know not just what I should put in, but what you think I should cut for it. If you don't know, that's fine, but if you do, please tell me. It's very challenging making a 5-color deck; they often lose focus because of the huge amount of cards available.
Hey there, not sure whether or not you've had a chance to playtest this deck, but I feel compelled to warn you that Scion of the Ur-Dragon draws a TON of hate, because players will assume that it's either a) 5c Hermit Druid, a combo deck notoriously known for killing entire tables in just a couple of turns, or b) a 5c Dragon deck that kills players with Dragon Tyrant or Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon. Either way, expect to draw the ire of every player at the table, because they'll likely gun for you first, even if it means pooling their resources to do so.
That said, I'm not sure all of the instants in your list are worth running, especially the less impressive spot removal cards such as Pongify, Rapid Hybridization, Celestial Purge, Victim of Night, and Sudden Spoiling. In their place you might want to consider adding ramp to increase the speed of your deck. You could probably stand to run Nature's Lore, Skyshroud Claim, and possibly even Farseek and Cultivate/Kodama's Reach. If your aim is to one-shot players with Skittles and Moltensteel or Dragon Tyrant, you really want to get the job done as quickly as possible.

you can pay , make Scion Skithiryx, on the stack pay , make him Moltensteel, let it resolve, when it becomes Moltensteel, pay 12 life to give it +6/+0, then he become Skithiryx, and you swing for 10 poison.
To make this work don't you have to do the following?:
1) Activate Scion's ability.
2) When it resolves, tutor up Moltensteel.
3) Activate Molten/Scion's pump 6 times.
4) While the pumps are on the stack, use Scion's ability again.
5) When it resolves, tutor up Skithiryx.
6) Let the pumps resolve.
7) Win.
It's essentially the same, but if you activate Scions ability, it has to resolve to copy the dragon. The way you described it, the Scion would become Moltensteel first, pump himself, then overwrite the pumps with a 4/4 unpumped Skithiryx.
@SeaThief: How does it over-wright the pumps? Because your way doesn't work either; Scion loses his tutor ability when he becomes a different dragon. I thought that while Skithiryx was still on the stack you could let him become Moltensteel, pump him, then let him become Skithiryx.
@xgunslingerz: Man I didn't realize how much people hate scion. I was hoping for a more passive strategy, where i sit around and help some people out while they kill each other, but that probably won't work if Scion tends to get hated off the board just because it's scion.
@spentbullets: Once again I didn't know that Scion drew so much hate. If I was trying for killing everybody with dragons then I would be building the deck a totally different way. I just thought that I could play the politics until there are only a couple opponent left for me to kill. And is Repid Hybridization/Pongify really that bad? I thought they were well costed and efficient creature removal. By the way, I've only playtested it at home with my family (3 out of 4 of us play magic), so I don't get a very accurate experience of people's reactions to different commanders.

Well, Rapid Hybridization and Pongify aren't bad cards--they are efficiently costed removal and are totally worth running in decks without access to W/B/R, despite the downside of creating tokens for our opponents. W has some of the best spot removal spells in the game, so I'd run Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile in those spots instead.
Scion gets a bad rap because he can potentially kill one player each turn if he is unanswered; it can be tough to keep him on the field. Another strategy that works really well with him is reanimator. He puts so many dragons in the graveyard that it's a shame not to reuse them. One all-star in particular is Torrent of Souls because it grants haste.

I could be wrong, but I figured your method gives the +6/0 to the Molten/Scio. Then when you clone the Skithyrix, the Scions power reverts to 4/4. Like I said I could be wrong.
As for my method being wrong, you are correct. I didnt realize he lost the ability after becoming a copy.

SeaThief, the +6/+0 will remain. Whenever a card refers to itself by name, it actually means "this object." Additionally, Scion being a commander is a property of the card itself, so any damage dealt by Scion whiles a copy of another dragon is still considered commander damage.
I believe nicol800 is correct in his understanding of Scion's activated ability triggers. In order for it to work, he must activate Scion twice without passing priority. In between the first and second instances of the ability resolving, Scion will become Moltensteel, and he can pay life to pump him. Then, the second ability resolves and Scion becomes a copy of Skithiryx with +6/+0 and infect until end of turn.

I wouldn't stress your deck drawing a lot of hate if your play group are all your friends and know you aren't building a deck to come out and win before anyone else has even really started. If they know your playstyle and you don't give them a reason to hate then there shouldn't be any issue. These decks can draw hate though... One example is the guy who brings the 5c Hermit Druid/Scion deck mentioned above, sits down unknown, and wins in 3 turns. Personally, neither I nor my playgroup ever send hate that way. We let him enjoy his 3 turns with a look of smug satisfaction and then tell him to go play with himself for the next 2 hours while we enjoy our game.
As for recommendations, I'd add Sunforger as an instant card toolbox tutor, and Mistveil Plains as a way to reuse your instants pulled with Sunforger.
Thanks for the advice; I will definitely add a Sunforger package. I'm hoping that you are right about avoiding the hate Scion draws. As I said, I have yet to playtest (or even acquire the cards to playtest) the deck in a true multiplayer setting, only with my family, so we will see how it works out.
