I have been working on this list for a Damia, Sage of Stone deck for a while and would love some input on it.
The goal of the deck is to win by either Laboratory Maniac, facilitated through either Doomsday or Hermit Druid, or to storm/Exsanguinate the opponent(s) out of the game.
This deck is meant for both single and multiplayer games, which is why storm is one of the alternate win conditions.
Awesomeness. I have tried many many times to combine doomsday and storm but never found it to be better than focusing on one or the other. I love seeing a deck like this out of a budget player! The budgeting is however a slight issue your mana base makes me cringe a little but hermit Druid is a serious card and playing mutiple wincins may actualy be a great way to make up for the quality tutors your can't afford by giving you just as many win hands. I can't help but think the tap lands slow you down at least a full turn which sucks and no islands means no high tide which also sucks. My first questions are how long have you been playing it what is your meta game and what is your average kill turn. This looks like maybe a turn 5-7 deck due to the mana base and other budget issues like lack of mana crypt. The list looks pretty good though all very good cards I have not checked your curve etc please post a deck stats link so I can goldfish your deck it will make it very easy for me to help you. Also why exsaguinate? I don't see power artifact so I don't see how it's ever easier than tendrils . Speaking of which run remand you will cast it on your own minds desire / tendrils most of the time and it's killer. With a remand in hand minds desire as low as 6 has got me decent odds for instant win depending on available mana. I don't know if a build like this will ever be as good as a more focused one but it's very cool and I love seeing decks like these out if budget players pm me for help if you want it or add me on skype moxnix222.
Thanks for the compliments man.
I have a love for both Storm and Laboratory Maniac so I went out of my way to make them work together.
Yeah, the lack of cards like Imperial Seal, Grim Tutor, Mana Crypt, and duals/fetches makes the deck about a turn or 2 slower than optimal, but it sill work.
The reason I included more than 1 wincon (specifically storm) was because this deck will have to function in both multiplayer and single player environments.
Hermit Druid/Doomsday for multiplayer and storm for 1v1, where there is probably a lot more spot removal flying around.
This is only the first draft of the deck, absolutely no real world testing at all. I wanted to throw the list up and get some Insight before I go out and start obtaining the non-staple cards. Yeah the lack of high-tide makes the storm kills a little harder. To be honest, I completely forgot about Power Artifact, which will help the deck immensely. Remand is also crazy with storm, i will be sure to add it as well. Exsanguinate was left over from another version of the deck it should be cut.
Also, regarding the manabase, this is something I just threw together, not nearly optimal, even for my limited budget.
In non-paper testing, i can usually kill around turns 4-7. I have gotten the turn 3 kill off once so far, but turn 4 is much more common.
The play group for this list is going to start out as my colleges Magic club, i think this will probably be the most cut-throat list there by the time it is completely tuned.
Once I get the deck to the level I want it to be, with Force of Will, and other non-budget cards (which could be a while, I plan to start attending local and regional tournaments.
Thanks for all the input. Ill definitely add you on skype. My skype name is MaxwellPerlman.
