First off, I am trying to put together a deck with the intention of lending it to the odd friend that knows the basic magic rules, but doesn't have an EDH deck to play with. As such, I don't want to run a bunch of tutors (other than ramp) or overly complex interactions.
I decided to start with Mayael, as I had her out of the precons and thought that the the "power of 5" would give a good introduction to the battle cruiser style of magic that is EDH.
As everyone wants to start with it, here is the deck list.
As you can see I have kept the Beasts theme out of the precon, and tried to increase the number of creatures with power 5 or greater.
Currently, I think I need to add Elvish Piper and/or Quicksilver Amulet after I find them, to help when you draw some of the bigger creatures. Should I get both, or is one of the two enough?
Anything else that should be added to make this deck flow a little smoother? I think I have enough 5 power creatures in it, but I have only hit one in the 5 times I have used Mayeal's ability in games.
Also, get more fat guys. I don't know how many you run, but I run around 28.
Before I can give specific card advice, I would like to know what kind of budget and additional cards you (and possibly your friend) have to work with.
