And possibly more. Cant go wrong with deck thinning, and a cheap blocker that grabs ramp, metalcraft, colorfixing, and even draw filtering
This list is about redundancy and power. Ramp out artifacts, play one or two punishment effects, and combo off/hit them with some game ending wheels.Remember, youre a combo deck. You wanna win in 1-2 turns tops, which typically happens turns 5-8. It can wait longer to ensure a good amount of mana sources and wheels and punishment effects are ready. Judging the field is very important to going off. If someone CAN stop you, they will Kgrip or bounce pain effects, or counter your wheels, so redundancy is key.
Unlike other builds, this is built for speed, but not too much speed. In addition, we dont rely on our general. In most cases, he is an overcosted, easily accessable pain effect. Too many other lists rely on him, and him getting tucked will make 10% of their list nearly worthless. He should be used as needed, as he is the one pain source we can count on. He also holds a Cypher'd Whispering Madness pretty well.

In my game last night, we were playing cowboy (bad idea for this deck, but I was an Outlaw so it worked out)
Meh, Casted a few more mana rocks and my general off my excess mana, waited another round or two, so my buddy had 9 cards in hand (my general+Library of Leng(EDIT: This should be Anvil of Bogarden) from Norin). Now this is where my memory is fuzzy of exactly what happened, but, about turn 7-8,
I cast Whispering Madness and it resolves. Everyone discards their hands and draws 9 and takes 9 from the general. I cypher this on my 3/3 beast. I drew into Psychosis Crawler and Molten Psyche. With Grim Monolith and Gilded Lotus out, I would have metalcraft. Okay this is where it gets ugly. I cast the Crawler. Okay metalcraft.
I cast Molten Psyche. Everyone shuffles in and draws 9, I draw 8 since I cast Crawler.
So they have taken 9, there's another 9 from my general. (18) Each player has drawn 18, so they all take 18 (36) plus I drew 8, so Crawler dealt 8 (44). I miscounted during the game, but two players lived and they couldnt stop my text turn, with Seething Song+Wheel of Fortune+Increasing Vengeance. Yeahhh I love this deck
T1: Draw scaling, grab watery grave and pass.
T2: Draw Swamp, play Mountain and the talisman.
T3: Draw Lightning Greaves. Play Ancient Tomb and Guilded Lotus. Pass and forget to cast Temple Bell off Lotus. oops.
T4: Draw Whispering Madness. Finally! Lightning Greaves, Temple Bell, and Felwar Stone come down. Next turn!
T5: Draw Mana Geyser off Temple Bell from last turn, and Dark Ritual. Cast Dark Ritual and Mana Geyser. BBBRRRRRRRRRRR floating. Cast General and equip. Whispering Madness for 8. Encode on general. Cast Library of Leng, Mana Vault, Sol Ring, and attack other Nekusar player whose open for another 8. Cast Reverberate on the trigger. 16. So 8+8+8. Then Spiteful Visions, and Windfall for 8 with Winds of Change in hand with Library of Leng out. 8+8+8+16= 40 and I win.
Played two games yesterday. Managed to make 54 red manas by casting Mana Geyser twice, but spent too much time getting UB to recast destroyed pain effects and more efficient wheels for the board state. Did a good number to their life totals, but no avail. Second game, I killed two players with the good ol Pact of Negation+Hive Mind
Threw in Windfall and took out a different cantrip. Considering running more removal, especially of the artifact and enchantment variety. And may consider Tainted Strike to deal with the annoying pillowfort lifegain Oloro decks.
Added in Echo Mage and Teferi's Puzzle box to help out our wheels, as sometimes I have issues chaining wheels. Puzzle box helps.
Frantic Search and Dark Rit were never nice to see. I do want to add more fast mana, but i also want to keep this consistent and win as early as turn 6-7 through disruption, no earlier.
Updated the list finally. More copymagic, tuck counters when facing voltron generals and other combo generals. In addition, more pain effects, better mana, artifact mana to ensure i can hit metalcraft with molten psyche consistently
Added trinket mage for hitting artifact lands and top/mana vault/sol ring.
I've honestly really considered it. However, while Slaughter pact could merit a slot (the flex slots are tight), pact of the titan does nothing on its own.
Hive mind lets me chain more wheels, except THEY cast them, which makes it an insane enabler.
Pact of Negation helps protect my combo turn. and together they can do both, and murder at the same time.
I wouldn't say R Pact doesn't do anything - it's a surprise blocker or a 4/4 with flash. Less relevant than the other two? Sure. But still playable.
Slaughter Pact could slot over some removal you have in the deck. It just so happens to pull double duty with the Hive Mind.

However your first point...if i dont see or cannot get hive mind, it is essentially a dead slot. It really is going to be most of the time. I will test slaughter soon
Swapped twincast for copy enchantment. Finding it harder to stick 1-2 pain effects, especially non-symmetrical ones. So trying this for now
Swapped Ad nauseam for Insidious Dreams. Its an infinitely better draw spell.ID allows me to, EOT setup a wheel win with fast ramp, wheels, and library of leng
Added a game report where i went off turn 5, according to my memory. Might have truely been 6, but it was a good clean finish and showcases this deck's power.
All are combo pieces with hive mind and or mind over matter. Mostly looking to include the atlas and insiduous dreams most of all. Atlas is more temple bell draw, a rattlesnake, and combos with MoM.
Took out copy enchantment and echo mage for dread for the mind over matter combo and as a rattlesnake if nothing else. Also added drift of phantasm because it hits more relevant targets. (Like wheels, pain effects, etc)
Did a practice hand and turn 6-7 i hit nekusar, wheel and insidious dreams in hand. Eot dreams for yawg will and mana geyser. Go off, yawg will, do it all again, and end up doing 73 damage to the entire table
Lol my previous post said i took it out. I might add it back in. Im trying to get a feel for the right amount of mana rocks vs. Redundancy of wheel/pain effects. Its tough.
Cheap card advantage is what i am missing. Too much redundancy and not enough card advantage. Working on that. Also looking at removing K parasite and others for stuff like lilliana's caress.
In addition, i need to add in glacial chasm and expedition map.
Updated the list for BotG, as well as some cards to playtest. Mostly replaced cantrips with more pain effects, and removed shuffle for discard. In addition, I am finding I really like the list as it is, as it's fairly easy to win with iy now, even through disruption. The next step is ensuring I hit mana rocks and land, as that is my only issue.
What's the point of using Ertai's Meddling instead of a normal counter? I thought u could delay the Commander or something, but the oracle text says, the target gets exiled like Delay.
I'm hoping to replace it with a Delay! Meddling has the rare ability to exile it longer, but I've never had that be a thing.
Got 4 more foils for the deck! Including a Blasphemous Act, which replaces Decree of Pain. Decree could make a comeback. An early mana geyser+hardcased decree is serious CA!

It's a really strong budget tutor and would up your game a lot when you have a chance to go Hive Mind combo (ie times when you have black/blue pact).
