Wait, you mean your general can bounce permanents or pseudo-counter spells every time he'd played? Why yes, before he became a planeswalker Venser, Shaper Savant was the pure embodiment of a blue mage.
This deck actually had it's origins as an Azami, Lady of Scrolls deck (and was the first EDH deck I ever built way back when) but I recently overhauled the concept and increased the power level to create a true terror. This deck also messes with opponents by leaving that crucial 4 mana open to discourage anyone from playing anything at all.
5. Tamiyo, the Moon Sage Ultimate. This plus a Counterspell makes it hard to lose. Even better if you can have a Force of Will in hand though. Pay 1 life, counter target spell seems good.
Chopping Block:
Thassa, God of the Sea - I don't think I have enough for her devotion and I don't really need the unblockable clause so she could just sit there scrying for some games.CUT.
Azami, Lady of Scrolls - Sadly enough I don't think I'm playing enough wizards anymore to justify keeping a slot for this fine lady who likes to draw my deck. She does let me sift through my deck for any card I want with Mind Over Matter or draw a card whenever I play my general though.
I've been wanting to do something similar for a while now. I'd have to drop and of the freakishly expensive cards like TMS though. How has the deck been recieved by your playgroup? The general hate for monoblue worries me somewhat.

Honestly, you really don't need to shell out for Jace if you don't want to. Sure he's strong and a great addition to the deck but you can replace him and the deck will still function just fine (I didn't actually own one until I picked up a FTV:20 set recently).
Force of Will is the most important money card to the deck so if you don't have one of those, that should be the first priority.
I actually haven't had much of a chance to play the new version with Venser as the general, but so far everyone had been cool with it as long as I don't needlessly prolong games and actually look for ways to win. Basically it's better if I create must answer board states then just sit back and make sure nobody else can do anything.
I think that as long as I don't play the deck every game/week people will remain fine with it. It's only if I insist on always playing it that issues might arise. The people I play with have fairly well tuned decks though so if your meta is less developed I wouldn't be whipping this out more than once in a while.
Seems like a very solid deck. Mono blue EDH really shines 1v1 so if you have multiple decks, I'd try to continue forming this to be a 1v1 deck. Do you have the FTV20? I bet you do, seeing as how Jace TMS is in there

Yep I do ;). I had a use for something like...17 out of the 20 cards between cube and EDH so I figured it was definitely worth the cost.
I could also only imagine the power level this deck could reach if I optimized it for 1v1 matches, however I only ever play multiplayer so it would be somewhat irrelevant for me. If I find the time I may pull together a list of cards that would work better in a 1v1 scenario so feel free to suggest stuff for that as well.
Ahh I love me some Blue, some Venser and some Azami and Arcanis! This looks similar to my own EDH deck. How is Impulse playing for you? Can't wait to fit it into my own build.
As someone who has ran his fair share of blue generals Venser is relatively innocuous in comparison to the more popular inclusions. Arcanis, Teferi and Azami (all in your deck) look more threatening to most people.
Some thoughts I have is perhaps adding another wincon like Karn Liberated. If I'm playing Venser I'm sure as heck gonna run Deadeye Navigator too.
Jenrik, I can't say I've ever been disappointed to have impulse. Instant speed draw spells that let me look at my next few cards and dump the stuff I want least for a small mana investment is really worth it. If I was to cut any card draw it would be Preordain most likely.
ForceofWho: That Deadeye Navigator is just abusive. I think that'll be even higher priority than getting a Gilded Drake. Thanks for the suggestion!

1. Your opponents win for you: Copy their win-con with Phyrexian Metamorph or Rite of Replication or steal it with any number of Control Magic effects. Also Bribery.
2. Bounce: Play a Tidespout Tyrant and just keep doing your thing with Capsize, Venser, Shaper Savant, Æther Adept, Crystal Shard, and Riptide Laboratory to gain incremental advantages. Bonus points for using a Rite of Replication on Tidespout Tyrant first.
3. Resolve Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur or Omniscience. It becomes very hard to lose if either of these spells get through. Bonus points for having a Tamiyo, the Moon Sage ultimate up with Omniscience.
4. Mind Over Matter and Temple Bell. Deck everyone and don't lose because you have a Kozilek, Butcher of Truth to shuffle your graveyard whenever you please.
5. Tamiyo, the Moon Sage Ultimate. This plus a Counterspell makes it hard to lose. Even better if you can have a Force of Will in hand though. Pay 1 life, counter target spell seems good.
