Hey,
I've been working for a long time towards making my first edh deck, and now that I'm pretty happy with the way that it looks, I thought I'd try and get some feedback on it. My goal is to get it to be as good as possible, though ultimately it really only needs to be able to compete in my group of friends.
Hello there Wallabe, glad to see another Grimsly player around! A couple of suggestions for your deck:
- I'm counting 98 Cards in your list. If you didn't miss any, I would suggest adding a land or two to reach the 100 count. Dimir colors are iffy when it comes to getting the amount of mana you need at times, so if you feel that you are missing land drops or don't have enough mana to play your spells, consider upping the land count.
- The recently released Dimir Cluestone is, in my opinion, a direct upgrade to Dimir Signet. If you would draw the Cluestone late game, you can trade it for a new card for 5, or even do so late game if you have previously dropped it. The Signet would be a dead draw late game, assuming your manabase is already stable. Mindstone is also another artifact you can consider.
- The inclusion of Fatestitcher in this list would help Grimgrin untap, add a bit of control, and allow Grimoire of the Dead to go off sooner.
- Speaking of the Grimoire, if you still want to include it I would also add another board sweeper in the form of Life's Finale. It's very cheap $$ wise, and allows Coffin Queen and Havengul Lich to pick up some nice targets from your opponent's decks! However, if the Grimoire isn't working for you and you have money burning a hole in your pocket, pick up an All Hallow's Eve!
- Depending on how you use Grimsly, you could include some equipment to protect him while he is eating face. Lightning Greaves/Swiftfoot Boots protect the big guy as well as your other value creatures likes Sheoldred, Whispering One and Geth, Lord of the Vault. You could also include some swords like Sword of Vengeance to give Grimgrin Trample and haste, so he connects for lethal if he's large enough, or even the often forgotten about Sword of Body and Mind to give Grimgrin some colored protection, enemy mill if you have some form of graveyard piracy, and a wolf to sac to and untap Grimgrin after all is said and done!
I wish I had seen the replies to this earlier. To start off, I can't think of any reason this deck might be illegal, though yes I only listed 98 cards. The deck has always been 100 cards, so I'm not sure what got left out.
Anyways, I've made a major overhaul to this deck based on feedback I got from playing locally, as well as tooWhite2ball's feedback. The deck before was halfway between a tribal deck and a token deck. I decided I wanted to focus on just one of the two, and went for tribal. I also made the take less focused on control, and increased the land count by 2. So far I've gotten to play one multiplayer and a bunch of 1v1 games with the new build. It seemed pretty solid in the multiplayer, but I seemed to be the target of the game, so I didn't take a lot away from it. Out of all the 1v1 games, I've only lost one, which is great, though it's not really the focus of the deck.
In response to the post above:
I'm a little torn between the signet and cluestone, and I'd love to hear more feedback. I used mind stone as a temporary filler, but right now I feel pretty solid on mana, so I won't be adding more help in.
Fatestitcher is good, the problem is that he strikes me as too limited. I just don't see getting enough use out of his ability to make him worth the spot.
Now that I've adjusted my mana curve, I can afford Life's Finale over Damnation, and I think it's a great suggestion.
I don't think I've seen All Hallow's Eve before, but it strikes me as a huge improvement over Grimoire of the Dead because the grimoire is an artifcact and takes longer, making it easier to counter. I'm not going to make the switch right away only due to the monetary cost, but I'll definitely try to get my hands on one.
Because the deck is so recursive now, I'm not sure if I want to spend a spot on protecting a given creature. I'm definitely going to see if I can make a spot for Sword of Vengeance though. Thanks for the feedback, and I'd love to hear any on my newest build.
