MTG Salvation

I'm not sure if this is posted in the right place, but I can't decide which direction I want to go with my next deck. My two least played colors are blue and red (I don't have any decks with Azorius colors together either), and I have a bunch of cards I want to play in those colors. Enter Ruhan of the Fomori. Seems awesome. Now my dilemma is how to build him. As of right now, my options are: Blink/etb fun (I don't really want to play bant or I'd play Jenara or Rafiq), voltron/creature beatdown, or increased damage fun times.

My frontrunner is blink. It's something I haven't done before, it's more control-y than I'm used to (I'm a timmy/spike at heart), but I'm not sure I can play it reasonably competitively - in a previous iteration I couldn't get it going fast enough, even goldfishing.
Both of the other two are something I considered with Boros colors, but I really do think I want to run Raka colors. I also may make this multiplayer, but I’d definitely like to keep it fast enough for 1v1. Is it possible to have a core decklist like I have above and switch cards out depending on how I want to play him or would that take too long?

If this deck gets to be one of my main decks, I’d probably take some cards out of another for it like my Swords to Plowshares and Oblations. I definitely don’t want to run Humility though as I don’t have one and I feel like it takes away from what I enjoy doing. I’d consider Wild Research if I can find one though, but would it be worth it without Humility?

I just moved from Philly to San Diego so I don't really know/have a meta anymore, so that's not really an issue right now, I just want to build a fun, reasonably competitive deck. Thanks in advance!

I gave it some thought, and since you're red, white, and blue, I like Equipment.

Not Voltron, but just an aggressive equipment + bodies deck.

I've been thinking about building a URW deck and my friend has been urging me to go with Ruhan tribal Giants. It's not really where I want to go with my deck, but maybe you would want to do something like that?

I would not suggest tribal giants. My Ruhan does pretty well with Sunforger, but honestly the very best way to play him is with mass land D. Play like six or seven 2 cost mana rocks to ensure you drop Ruhan turn three every time, then turn four geddon for the win.

Consider enchantment focus, my Ruhan deck uses Bruna as a double and goes Voltron (3 hits normally, 2 when buffed) and enchantment protection quite well (I will not use PF word).

Depends on what your friends find fun. My suggestions are as follows:

1v1; Like aggro: Equip/Voltron (Sunforger, Lightning Greaves, Kaldra Set, Sword of * and * cycle)
1v1; Like control: Board wipe+ramp (Armageddon, Evacuation, , Armillary Sphere)
1v1; Like combo: Blink stuff (This is not really my territory, but etb and blink stuff always does well in my group)
Multi; Like aggro:Same as 1v1
Multi; Like control: Instant/sorcery theme with targeted removal and noncreature board wipes (Swords to Plowshares, Purify, Goblin Electromancer)
Multi; Like combo: Group hug to make Ruhan seem like you "just being fair" to draw heat off, then throw out a combo. Maybe the Proteus Staff+Eldrazi w/token makers (Elspeth, Knight-Errant, , Dragon Fodder, Talrand's Invocation.

Remember, I don't know what this deck is for or your meta so to speak.

Cataclysm is one of the best cards for Ruhan. You leave him, a sword, and a land, and call it good.

A long time ago I ran a voltron Ruhan list w a slivers and changelings sub-theme. Considerable focus went into converting ruhan into a sliver, via runed stalactite, hivestone, mirror entity, and then bashing face. It wasn't the best list ever, as you had to constantly over commit the board, but it was a lot of fun and an unexpected twist on the WUR color scheme. No doubt the upcoming crop of slivers in M14 would have fleshed this out further.

^This. RWU can be very aggressive with artifacts.

Sunforger is also nice. As is Isochron Scepter with Swords to Plowshares. Fireshrieker is essential for Voltron of any sort, and really good in Ruhan (since it means you just need +4/+0 to oneshot someone). Amazingly, I also like Power Matrix, just because the addition of flying and trample is too good to pass up.

In general (heh), Ruhan feels very Voltron (7/7 for four mana? Yeah.). You can throw on some of your favorite pillowfort cards in case things don't work out, though.

In terms of enchantments, I'd recommend Curiosity and the better umbras. Mark of Fury is also nice because Ruhan can get a lot of hate if your opponents can't answer him. (And his "attacks randomly" downside makes him a bit frustrating to players who are behind: Unlike the other two Team America legends, "Ruhan kingmaker" doesn't exist.)

I realized I didn't have a lot of red in my blink prospects and I wouldn't have much overlap if I made a Lavinia deck, so I decided to go aggro/control for Ruhan with equipment. Below is the list I ended up with so far...any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Should I still add Gisela, Blade of Goldnight and Ghostly Prison? Both seem like they would be good, but I feel like there is better that could go in those slots.

Your wishlist might benefit from a Goblin Welder.

I built a pretty strong ruhan deck which is a graveyard based control deck. it has an etb subtheme. it might be worth checking out. its not anything like voltron (i find this playstyle personally uninteresting), but it might still have some helpful bits. its linked in my signature.

In my ruhan of the fomori deck, I also use sunforger. I have the "normal" cards in my sunforger package, but I also run stuff like render silent, double negative, essence backlash, counterflux, offering to asha, and hindering light. There are also a bunch of other, older, counterspells with red or white in them, which is a direction most people don't go, but it is really strong, suprisingly, and really unexpected. I see you are running mono-blue counterspells. I would put in primarily ones with white or red unless they're awesome like cryptic command, dissapate, hinder, or mana drain. But for normal blue counters, find another general.

Other good cards that aren't counterspells: Orim's thunder, path to exile, swords to plowshares, return to dust, oblation, reverberate, chaos warp, wild ricochet. Many others.

Also, the three charms rock, especially boros. But I see it is already in there.

Sun Titan might be nice to recur your artifacts/other cheap stuff. The other titans, as well as the primordials are good cards in general. Maybe pick one or two up - they are cheap.

Solemn Simulacrum is boring but he is good even in green, which should tell you how much you should run him.

Also, why no azorius signet?

Guys like stoneforge mystic, godo, bandit warlord, and even tezzeret the seeker (best if you put in artifact lands) are great equipment tutors. I didn't mention stuff like fabricate, but you've got it.

i played a super fun chaos themed Ruhan deck. had Grip of Chaos, Warp World, Thieves' Auction, Eye of the Storm, Hive Mind, among others. And lots of stuff that make everyone attack every turn like Avatar of Slaughter. There's nothing like watching someone rage quit because a Grip of Chaos hits the board...
