Hello everyone, this is my Animar, the Soul Elements deck. I've been working on this deck for over and year and from where it started to where it is today has been a fun ride.
This deck started as a UGMomir Vig, Simic Visionarydeck. It was fun to play but when they released the Commander sets I sawAnimar and I knew I wanted him as my general. At the time my playgroup was playing a lot of counter magic so when I made my two color into a three color deck the main theme was "uncounterable". I pretty much played every card that was unable to be countered and a lot of hydra creatures to make their X cost more effective with Animar's ability.
After a while the counter magic went away from the playgroup and I slowly started to change the deck again. I wanted more ways to get counter on my general, to draw a lot of cards, and to cast some of the best creatures in URG.

This deck has really changes since I last posted. I found out I wasn't running enough creatures. The ones that I were running were really expensive. My curve was horrible. I also didn't want to rely on Animar but that was a horrible decision. So I took out a lot of the expensive creatures/spells and added really good cheap creatures. I wanted to put in creatures that did what other spells did like swapping out voidslime for voidmage husher it's not the exact spell but being that its a creature it goes more with what the deck wants to do.
NOT A LOT OF COMBOS?
I know that in these colors and with some of these cards it would be easy to turn this deck into combo city. I'm not a huge fan of combos so I only put one in there, for the just in case moments. The combo is Animar, soul of elements and Palinchron to get infinite mana ad infinite counter on Animar. Once you have enough counters on Animar to play Palinchron on the cheap you net extra mana when he comes into play and then you return him to your hand and repeat.
SOME OF MY FAVORITE CARDS TO PLAY
shrieking drake, dream stalker - i didn't realize how good these cards were untill I started playing with them. being able to get counter on Animar early is really important and these guys do the trick. once you have counter on animar that can be use to bounce creatures with CITP abilities. With cloudstone curio it gets really run speaking of curio
cloudstone curio this card makes the deck explosive. everything on the battlefield becomes apart of the tool box. anytime you play a creature you can return a creature. if you have mystic snake on the field you pretty much have a counter spell when ever you need it [if your creatures have flash it's even better.
etherium-horn sorcerer , Maelstrom Wonderer sometimes you want to spin the wheel and free spells are always welcome. sometimes you hit your counterspells but for the most part they make the deck really fun to pilot.
Oracle of mul daya- she is an amazing card. you get to play an extra land per turn and it's great for digging through your deck if your stuck with land on top if it.
Master Biomancer- Biomancer is a powerhouse in this deck. He helps get counter onto your general and just makes your big creatures even bigger.
OUT: 1 Forgotten Ancient - usually didn't make it around the table to be really good 1 Anger - meh 1 Mercurial chemister - slow draw is bad 1 Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker - banned in the league i play :[ 1 Genisis - wanted to switch some cards around 1 Vesuvan doppelganger - 5cmc clone isn't that good need to make the deck cheaper 1 Aetherling - not that good in multiplayer edh 1 Sun Quan, lord of Wu - trying to add cheaper creatures and he didn't fit 1 Steel Hellkite - really good but but I like Bane of progress better 1 Dragon Broodmother - the 3 red was annoying and it never lasted long enought 1 Craterhoof Behemoth - boring win condition was boring 1 Voidslime - became voidmage husher :] 1 Increasing Savagery - i rather play a creature to get a counter on animar 1 Skyshroud Claim - at 4cmc I wanted cheaper "early game" ramp= wood elves 1 Praetor's counsel - 8cmc sucked early game and wanted to add more creatures 1 Doubling Season - not really needed with the bounce creature to get a lot of counter on animar 1 rhystic study - never drew me enough cards 1 Skullclamp - i dunno why I took this out, room for more creatures 1 Crucible of worlds - did really fir the decks theme 1 Vedalken Orrery - prophet fir this slot 1 forbidden orchard - my land bade is good enought 1 mountain - not a lot of red in the deck
Guided Passage is pretty disappointing unfortunately. You're guaranteed the three most useless cards for any given scenario while at the same time revealing your deck to an opponent.

I take it no one plays Blood Moon in your meta either?
This deck looks pretty controlling, I like it
Yea I figured that Guilded passage will be cut eventually but I figured i'd try it out for fun.
Maelstrom Wandere does wiff sometimes when you hit a counterspell/ xspell but for the most part I usually get at least one big creature, and with his haste ability, it usually makes it a fun turn when I play him.
Blood moon is not a card I see even in my play group or in most EDH decks I've go up against but if it does come up I can see how that can screw me up. I might have to throw in a few more basics to be safe.

How does Maelstrom Wanderer play with your counterspells and X cost spells? I see you have some library manipulation (Sylvan Library, Sensei's Divining Top) but is that enough?
