Do you have a nasty problem in your playgroup? Are there degenerate combos coming at you from all sides? Lets try to solve that, eh? Without further introductions, Ruric Thar, the Unbowed.
:chaos::chaos::chaos::chaos: Note: Being further expanded upon to be more in-depth. Will eventually be a primer on control/hate. :chaos::chaos::chaos::chaos:
Would you bow, or be unbowed?
Why should you play Ruric, let alone this way?
1. You have a hyper-competitive playgroup with hyper-competitive decks.
2. You enjoy dishing out punishment.
3. You want to stop many shenanigans by causing chaos and turning things off.
4. You want a good :symrg:/:gruul: general and a good way to use him.
5. You don't like infinite combos.
6. You want to actually do things!
7. You want to play control out of it's usual colors.
Why would you hate playing with Thar?
1. You have a casual group.
2. You don't like destruction (and mass land destro).
3. You like playing blue and having hard control.
4. You like not interfering with other's plans.
5. You have a strong desire to one shot the table.
6. You want to have friends at the end of the game.
7. You are a dirty dirty :dimir:, :azorius:, or :orzhov:.
Where did this deck come from?
What first started as a Borborygmos deck, dabbled in Uril, the Miststalker, and Stonebrow, Krosan Hero all the while never having a true general at heart for my deck. How long I waited for a general... Praying for a 6 mana for a 6/6 trample creature. Then Return to Ravnica came out. Oh, how excited I became for Gatecrash, waiting for a new Borborygmos. Then the amazing disappointment that was Borborygmos Enraged. :8mana:, how could his cost go up! Granted, free lightning bolts are nice, but.... incapable of being played in a group with a Scion of the Ur-Dragon and Oona, Queen of the Fae (Courtesy of Jivanmukta ("the spirit of EDH")) problem. So my only remaining hope was wait for the guild champions. Then he was spoiled. I did not believe it, I thought it was a Dimir mind hack of WotC, taunting me. I had finally found a general. This deck picked up where Bor left off, and only upped the ante on the hate cards. While the Bor deck was dominated by a huge destrustion suite, it became adapted to a hoser style of play. And that's how this deck came to be.
SB is card I am considering. Comparing to your list, I have no poison package and less beaters. Instead I have more non-basic hate with Ruination, Blood Moon and Magus and I have more ramp spell to power out Ruric earlier.

Yeah, yeah. I Like to update when the cards are safe and secure in the sleeves Jiv. Didn't realize we changed 12 cards in the deck though.
