Hopefully this doesnt count as "varient", if so I apologize. A relatively local game store is holding a two headed giant EDH league starting next month. I have no idea what kind of competition we'll find out there, but my EDH group is somewhat competitive so we're hoping to storm the gates and take the loot, 3 Boxes of... I assume Gatecrash. The plan is to pair Oona, Queen of the Fae with Zur the Enchanter. Zur providing early threats with Oona backing up with control until she assembles a combo and wins outright.
The deck is fairly self explanatory. Control the board and counter until Zur beats em down or I can just hit infinite mana and mill my opponents out. The Mindshrieker and Mind Grind are in there just in case Oona gets shut down with Nevermore or something of the like. The Arcane Laboratory with Knowledge Pool combo lets us get our generals out still, where Zur can probably do the damage we need and I can always make faerie tokens to help speed up the clock.
My partner also has a complete Sisay deck he's been debating using. He's leaning towards Zur heavily though.
Now, while our group is moderately competitive, I have never been in an EDH tournament before. I also have no idea if we're walking into a room full of casual Momir Vigs or top tier Edrics. I do know there is an Edric & Rafiq team, and the aggro match up scares me a little.
So then to my questions. Is 12 counters too few / many? Are Gravitional shift / Void Stalker / Underworld Connections as bad as I think they might be? Is the Crucible / Stripmine combo worth it in 2HG? Anything obvious I'm missing? Is it worth running Oona to always start the game with a combo piece and have access to tutors and better board control or should I be looking at Azami and Teferi?
If you looking for a strong Oona-combo list you can check mine out. While the sections aren't updated the deck itself is. If prizes are on the line you probably want to be a brutal as possible (barring any "house" rules they may have).
Prepare to face lots of blue decks.
The best suggestion I can give you is to get more accel. Oona is ALL about the fast combo.
