So in my quest to build a deck for every color I came to Selesnya. I didn't want to build Captain Sisay as I wanted to allow for more variation. I've seen way to many Sisay games go the exact same game after game also I just feel like she's sort of the default commander. I wanted something new an I stumbled upon the glory of Saffi Eriksdotter!!!!! Not only does this card have awesome flavor text, it also has the potential of being an awesome and super fun general.
Anyways here's the deck
numbers = converted mana cost
* = trial run of a card
the first thing i would do is convert as many sorcery and instant cards over to creature cards as soon as possible. for example, harmonize could be mindless automation, and skyshroud claim could be a farhaven elf. once this switch is made, you have the possibility to net far more then the sorcery/instant version ever could... while having the option to get in for a few points of damage here and there.
once that is done, define your engines and feedback loops. for example, birthing pod. with birthing pod you should analyze what options you have at every level of the chain and how many opportunities you have to obtain each level of the chain. for example, 4 is my weakest link in my build. because my 4 drops are so far and few between, but 5 is such an important number i am forced to run masked admirers. its such a good card for me because it also bridges into a survival engine very well. long story short... make your engines as smooth and efficient as possible. as a bonus, find ways to bridge them together.
other then that, just keep an eye out and see what works for you.
hmmm, I thought I responded to pooleyduke ages ago. Your deck definitely looks strong (well duh, it wouldn't get primer status otherwise) but I didn't want to just straight up copy your build. Though I do think it might have been your deck that inspired me to build her. I noticed your build seems a bit more focused on comboing than mine does. Granted my deck can and likes to combo also but while my play group is okay with that they get annoyed if its the same combo every time which is why mines a bit more aggressive. Thanks for the link btw
@Bederdern thanks for the insight. I don't know how much I like Mindless Automaton but I do think Farhaven Elf will be added. I'll replace Ranger's Path though, not Skyshroud. they come in untapped and I can get Temple Garden or Dryad with it? Too good. I definitely agree with you on the podchain. Five is definitely my magic number also with few 4 drops but my 4 drops, despite only being three in number work wonders for me. while I'm not keen on sacrificing oracle, heartmender feels like it was made for this deck, and sadbot is...well sadbot. Huh never thought of using admirers with Survival. Seems good. Though I don't particularly care to pay out for another survival.
I will edit the list once I get my hands on a farhaven elf. I probably have some laying around. Plus I think there are more changes I made.
the automaton was just an example of how draw spells could be converted into creatures... i wouldnt play it here.
your welcome for the feedback. always glad to lend advice to those who have taken an interest in my main generals. any questions you have, feel free to ask. i have been playing saffi since like 08' i think, so i could easily assist in any troubles you are having in construction or match ups.
Saffi has quickly become one of my favorites actually. And she tends to perform quite well for me I would say for me she's one of my top tier decks but she still lets other people play their decks and interact with me which just makes her all the more fun I think.
Thoughts on Angel of Serenity?
Deck Edits:
-Planar Cleansing (destroyed my own important artifacts /enchantment too much)
-fresh meat (only performed once)
-inheritance (not the most efficient)
/////
+Austere Command
+Restoration Angel (cmc4!!! and etb effect abuse, seems good)
+Sylvan Library (need I say more?)
If you want to build around Saffi without going the combo route, I suggest you just fill the deck with nothing but ramp, recursion and sac outlets, and creatures with ETB abilities. You really don't need anything else.
