Hiya, I'm ZombieCat. I just signed up to this forum after browsing through and deciding to post my own EDH deck. I started playing EDH about three months ago and have been playing Magic for maybe 5 months total. One of my friends gave me a box full of cards soon after I started playing and within that box was a 60 card zombie deck, although gutted somewhat. From there he helped me to understand how to play EDH and how to build a deck. So, for my first deck, I decided upon Zombies.
I've been researching black cards to the point of going through ALL the black cards in Magic, setting aside the ones I find best suit this deck. That's how I found one of my favourite instant cards, sudden spoiling. I do have a friend who has Avacyn, Angel of Hope as his commander, that's why I have cards like Killing wave and Contamination instead of Damnation..
-Contamination with Unholy Grotto or Gravecawler, this will lock out any EDH decks that don't have any Black in them until they can deal with Contamination.
-No Mercy in case you've been board wiped. Great for defence.
-Army of the Damned with Mirari in play means you get 26 zombies on one turn.. flash Army of the Damned back for even more laughs. (Best to use your evil laugh at this point)
-Grimoire of the Dead with Shepherd of Rot in your graveyard is amazing. Once you've got the three study counters on Grimoireof the dead, make your opponent sweat a couple more turns if you can, cause whatever else dies will come back.
You may end up finding that Dark Ritual and Dash Hopes don't work out as well as you'd like; Ritual is a one-shot (you're in mono-black, tough luck with recurring non-creatures) and only ramps you up by 2 mana; not big enough in the format to warrant a card slot. As for Dash Hopes, 5 life is nothing when you start at 40; it gives your opponents (any player!) the choice to counter your counter, and your opponents have every reason to choose whichever's better for them/worse for you.
Seconding the above sentiment on Dark Ritual and Dash Hopes. In their place, might I recommend Tragic Slip and Ashes to Ashes? Both provide an extra out to Avacyn, which is never a bad thing.

Both of those are great recommendations, I will be taking out both Dash Hopes and Dark Ritual for those two. I've also noticed that the following cards aren't working out much, so I've decided to take them out:
Other cards that may be of use to you are Call to the Grave, Endless Ranks of the Dead, Grave Betrayal, Tombstone Stairwell, Cruel Revival, Living Death (this is another way to get rid of Avacyn, and if there's a noxious ghoul in your grave when you cast it, you'll usually be the only one with creatures left). There are some more, but I don't have all that much time to list them all. If you want to view my decklist it's here, but seeing as some of the cards are outside your colors, they won't be of use to you.
Coffin Queen and Bone Dancer are on my buy list right now! Thank you. Dread Slaver, Geth and Lim-Dûl the Necromancer I've tried to have in though, the problem being mana cost. Lim-Dûl was actually my first commander for this deck and I wasn't able to cast him till turn 7 or 8. I'm trying to make this a quick aggo/control zombie deck. Fleshbag Marauder is definitely a good idea, I'm sure I can find room.

I actually own Grave Betrayal, Call to the Grave, Living Death and Cruel Revival. I'll mix them in and see how it goes. I'm mainly worried about mana costs, that's the only thing that was holding me back from using these cards. Tombstone Stairwell is a VERY interesting card that I will buy.
EDIT: Question about Tombstone Stairwell: If you have no cards in your graveyard, doesn't it backfire? Tokens DO go to the graveyard correct?

Keep in mind, this isn't standard. A high mana curve doesn't make the deck bad, unless everyone in your local area is playing super SUPER aggro decks. Also, Fleshbag + Mikeaus + Grave Pact = Fun times ensuing. Especially if you can get him back with things like Lord of the Undead.
As for your question on the stairwell: No, it doesn't backfire. It won't be incredibly useful, but tokens do not go to the graveyard. I killed someone with it early when I only had 1 creature in graveyard. They had about 10, and after they swung, my Vengeful Dead killed them due to 10 zombies dieing at end of turn.

I do love that combo with Vengeful Dead and Tombstone Stairwell. I'll go buy it asap. Also, I'll update my deck list now that I've changed a few things. Just got my Stromgald Crusader to help block his Angel deck!

This is the result, an amazing Zombie Commander deck with Korlash, Heir to Blackblade leading his Zombie Generals (Death Baron, Lord of the Undead, Undead Warchief, Cemetery Reaper and Zombie Master) and his Zombie horde into battle against any who oppose them!
Fun combos in this deck:
-Tormented Soul with Nightmare Lash/Lashwrithe
-Contamination with Unholy Grotto or Gravecawler, this will lock out any EDH decks that don't have any Black in them until they can deal with Contamination.
-No Mercy in case you've been board wiped. Great for defence.
-Cover of Darkness, choose Zombies, play Korlash, Heir to Blackblade and swing till you win.
-Army of the Damned with Mirari in play means you get 26 zombies on one turn.. flash Army of the Damned back for even more laughs. (Best to use your evil laugh at this point)
-Lashwrithe, Nightmare Lash on Korlash, Heir to Blackblade to double or even triple his power.
-Grimoire of the Dead with Shepherd of Rot in your graveyard is amazing. Once you've got the three study counters on Grimoireof the dead, make your opponent sweat a couple more turns if you can, cause whatever else dies will come back.
Board wipes:
-Massacre Wurm with Sudden Spoiling = gets around indestructibility.
-Killing Wave with Grave Pact = ensures all creatures die if you've got enough on the field
-Army of the Damned with Noxious Ghoul in play = also gets around indestructibility.
Burn combos:
-Army of the Damned with Shepherd of Rot = at least 14 damage or you can use Zombie Apocalypse with Shepherd of Rot for even more fun.
-Tombstone stairwell with Vengeful Dead or any of the following cards: Blood Artist, Shepherd of Rot, Noxious Ghoul, Endless Ranks of Dead, Unbreathing Horde, Soulless One and Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. Thanks to Toxic78 and Kenjiblade for the recommended cards
That's my EDH Deck Breakdown, I'm sure there's more combo's I haven't even played or seen yet... Any and all comments and idea's are welcome!
UPDATE ON REPLACED CARDS:
Nightmare Incursion for Grave Betrayal
Temporal Extortion for Call to the Grave
Dash Hopes for Shade's Form
Dark Ritual for Leshrac's Rite
Abattoir Ghoul for Stromgald Crusader
Mutilate for Living Death
Blanket of Night for Victimize
—Chaeska, Keeper of Tresserhorn
Commander/EDH Decks:
BRG The Blood of Jund - Kresh the Bloodbraided BRG
WR The Blades of Goldnight - Gisela, Blade of Goldnight WR
Both of those are great recommendations, I will be taking out both Dash Hopes and Dark Ritual for those two. I've also noticed that the following cards aren't working out much, so I've decided to take them out:
Nightmare Incursion
exsanguinate
mutilate
blanket of night
Any ideas on what to replace them with?
